We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetria Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demetria, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a kid growing up in the District of Columbia, I had no mentors to look up too. My mom was in abusive relationships and was an alcoholic to escape my reality at the time, I would immerse myself into acting out things that I would see on television. I fell in love with what I saw on television and I told myself that one day that will be me. I really didn’t get my start until I started to believe in myself which took years to do. So in 2017, I decided to step out on faith and that is when I started to pursue my career in acting. I have been loving it ever since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that the more you tell me no the more it motivates me. I am most proud of who I have become and who I am becoming. I have gotten to where I am today from hard work and determination. It was not easy at all. I overcame the challenges by not giving up and giving in. I learned that you have to be humble and be willing to take criticism at any time. I want everyone to know that I am a winner and that giving up will never be an option that I choose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me, I would take them to some shows that are her and also to dinner. I would eat at Tasty Crab. We would take a trip to the winery to drink wine. If there are any plays going on. I would take them to the Performing Arts Center or The Coliseum to watch them. I know that South Carolina has a lot of beauty here so it is really hard to say.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to everyone in my life that has supported me and has been a positive influence in my life making me who I am today. I especially like to give a shoutout to my husband Chris Johnson who continuously supports me and everything that I do.
