Meet Derrick Harris

We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrick Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Derrick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At first there wasn’t a thought process for starting our own business. We were mere patrons at another location and had a great experience. It was at this point that my wife explained to me it was a franchise. As a researcher I found out all I could about the franchise and business model. This is when the idea of being a business owner began to take shape for us. Having the experience we had put us in the mind of sharing this same experience in our community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want the world to know that life isn’t easy. I have never seen it as such, but that doesn’t mean I don’t try. In my career I have had ebbs and flows just like everyone else but it is how you show up daily that is most important. I have come to learn that life is just that learning. The learning does’t have a shelf life so we should pull from it every day we breathe life and strive to make it better, for ourselves and everyone else. I know this sounds easier said than done , but aren’t most things until you accomplish your goals? I was a late bloomer in almost all things. I chose the United States Navy over college because I knew I wasn’t ready for school. I spent a number of years traveling the world in defense of our great country, but it wasn’t until I hit my mid 50’s that post education became important to me. Through the years most of my education was on the job and during that time, I learn more about life and love of self in conjunction with love for family and friends.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a hard question to answer because the Houston Metroplex is a great place to be, with lots of interesting people, places, and things. However, I don’t have much of a social life because there is so much to do, it is hard to pick. A friend visiting would want to go to my favorite seafood restaurant in the Post Oak area called Willie G’s. I say that would be a great starting point to start exploring Houston. Then, we would probably hit up a few of my favorite bars, eventually ending up in Pearland, Texas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a business owner, I give all the credit for our endeavor to my wife Christine Harris and our sons Jaxson and Greyson. To achieve any kind of success at something, there has to be a motivator. I am incredibly grateful for the support of my wife, Chris. I don’t know what I would do without her. In fact, I don’t know how I would have gotten this far in life without the rest of my family and friends. They are the ones who have given me encouragement and support, the ones who have given me the love and understanding I needed to keep going. So, thank you. Thank you to all of you who have helped me along the way. I couldn’t have made it this far without all of you, and now I’m so grateful to be where I am.
The old adage that it takes a village is true. Chris, Jaxson, and Greyson are purveyors of encouragement and support daily, but so is the rest of my family. I would have to say I dedicate any success we have to my village. I also want to thank all the people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us succeed. I can’t thank you enough.
