We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamon Webb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamon, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
My end goal is to have a positive effect on everyone! I want to continue assisting small businesses in taking their branding to the next level. I will eventually begin helping other upcoming brand designers when it comes to stepping into this field. When I first started out I had so many questions that no one was willing to answer. In fact, I even invested hundreds of dollars on many courses and webinars that were not very beneficial to me. As brand designers, we each have our own, unique design aesthetic that only we can discover. However, people can help with the business aspect, the legal aspect, the workflow management aspect, all of which are just as important as knowing and understanding how to design.
To sum it up, my end goal is to leave my mark on my clients and on other designers. I will soon become a brand design instructor where I will mentor, teach, and answer all the questions I had when starting out. I am also in school studying Management Information Systems. I pray that following the completion of my degree, I’ll land a job at a technology company where I can use my skills in design!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Diamon Webb and I own a creative studio called Christel Aesthetic Designs where I do brand and graphic design! I create and assist clients in discovering their brand identity for their business. Brand identity includes logos, brand colors, typography, product label designs, and more! As a graphic designer I create flyers, Meta filters, custom bookings sites and more!
I am most excited about the release of my first course! It will be very affordable and beginner friendly for all. I designed it to allow people to play with their design skills and for them to have an additional source of income. The course will be released before the year is out, so everyone must follow our Instagram @christelaesthetics for the big reveal and to stay up to date!
The life of an entrepreneur, especially as a brand and graphic designer is not easy. Many people do not see the significance in investing into a designer when there are more affordable options out there. However, when you invest into a designer you are also investing in their expertise in that field. Many business owners do not understand that and as a result, many agreements that I have had with other businesses have failed. It can be very disappointing at times, but you must stay persistent, true to yourself, and true to your business.
A lesson I learned on my journey is to stand firm on your policies and be true to you. It can be difficult at times, but those procedures are in place to make the experience and quality of service much more efficient and effective. Do not sell yourself short to benefit others. Be confident in your craft and your process, people will do the same.
My passion for design was sort of stumbled upon. I was creating a logo for a jewelry company that I intended on establishing. However, my friends suggested I design for others. I didn’t know much about this industry, but I started doing research and everything about it intrigued me. I began taking business courses for my degree and it led me to meshing the knowledge I researched and learned from class. From there, it made me fall in love with this industry even more. My brand, Christel Aesthetics, is not just a side hustle, it is my passion. My love for designing is so out of this world to where I figured out a way to mend my love for design with my future career.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me to be a 21-year-old, I don’t get out much. However, I always find myself having a great time at Faces of Houston, Playground, Parma and A’dor. You are guaranteed to be surrounded by great drinks, food, people, and music!
I believe the most fun and exciting attribute about Houston, is its people. You are destined to have good experience with the people here! When you are speaking with a Houston native, it is as if you aren’t holding a conversation with a complete stranger. We are an overall vibe!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first started out, my goal was to let my brand speak for itself. I wanted people to see my work and choose to work with me based on the quality of my portfolio. However, my brother Casteadel Webb, a Human Resources specialist and travel notary (@ckw.notary on Instagram), pushed for me to do a brand shoot because it gave my business credibility. It gave my audience and clients representation that they are working with someone that they can trust. As a result, my audience communicates with me more because they see the legitimacy of my business. That small simple push provided by my brother helped my business more than I would have ever thought possible.
When starting a business, it is often hard to find people who can give credible information. However, I was able to encounter successful people like Donail Biggers, a civil engineer and real estate entrepreneur, who took a chance on me. He instilled in me that sometimes an opportunity is worth far more than making profit. He motivates me to persevere, and that failure and mistakes are destined to happen regardless of your level of entrepreneurship. The real test as an entrepreneur is how you turn a bad situation around. I am forever appreciative of having a serial entrepreneur such as Donail Biggers as my mentor.
I would also like to dedicate a special thank you to any and every one that supports me. A simple repost and recommendation does more for a small business than many recognize, and I appreciate it all. Entrepreneurship can be very discouraging at times but it’s the small things from my supporters and family that keep me going.
