We had the good fortune of connecting with Dj Shinski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dj, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I have ever made was to quit my engineering job to go full time on my DJ Career. It was a nerve wrecking to make the transition from having a 9-5 career to being self employed and having a pay cut. To make it worse, the covid pandemic started a few months after I had quit my job. All Club venues and events were shut down/postponed. It was hard times however, I was able to adapt to the changing times. Consistency and hard work made the transition worth it because after a few years, I was able to secure more events and work than I ever had in my Dj Career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
what you are most proud of or excited about.
I am proud of how my mixes and music have made a massive impact on people’s lives globally. I have fans of all ages and from different countries and cultures listening to my music. I am excited to tour the world and unite people through good music.
How did you get to where you are today professionally?
It took me a lot of years of hard work, consistency, failures, research, practice and learning from others to get to where I am right now. Lastly, building a strong network in the industry and being reliable with my fans has kept my name and brand a household staple in the entertainment scene.
If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
It was not easy. There were a lot of challenges throughout my journey.
First of all, trying to balance my djing career and going to school for electrical engineering was tough. I barely had time for social life because if i wasn’t studying, I was researching new songs to play at my gigs.
Secondly, the pandemic did not spare me financially at all. I quit my engineering job in 2019 right before the pandemic so I can focus on my Djing career. The lockdowns really hit me hard. I was broke and was struggling to make ends meet because all the clubs were shut down. That’s when I started focusing on online Live mixing. It was not easy but it paid off in the end.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
I learned a few important lessons along my journey. Some of them include
1. Patience is key.
2. Hard Work beats talent
3. Consistency builds trust
4. Being able to adapt keeps you ahead of the industry.
5. Maintaining positive relationships builds a stable community around you.
6. Taking risks elevates you to a new height of your career.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My goal is to unite people of different cultures and race through music. I would not stop till have a won some victory of spreading love and unity in the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In My opinion, Houston is known for its variety of food choices and 24-7 Club life. I would definitely suggest checking out the galleria area and midtown area. They have a variety of restaurants to choose from. The southwest area has alot of clubs and lounges. For African music there are clubs like O2 lounge, Cloud 9, Aura and so many more to choose from. I will also check out the NASA space station if you are into science.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family for supporting my decision to becoming a DJ full time. Also i would like to thank my loyal fans who have supported me from early days when I was starting till now. Last but not least, I have to give credit to all the djs that I have learned from throughout this journey,
