We had the good fortune of connecting with Jah Lowery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jah, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is feeling aligned; when things in my mind, body, and spirit all connect. I find immense joy in spending time with God, moving my body, cooking delicious plant based meals, traveling around the world and holding space for others to live their healthiest life. I’m especially filled with Joy when others get to see that they can reconnect with themselves and realize that wellness and healthy living is within reach and is in fact their birthright. Being able to pour into others through my work make all the work I do feel meaningful. Traveling also gives me moments of deep appreciation for the life I have been afforded and allows me to connect with and learn from other cultures.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The work I do sits at the intersection of wellness, faith and intentional living. As a plant based culinary Specialist and holistic wellness experience curator, I create spaces both in person and digitally where people can find themselves reconnecting with through food, movement, and community building. I approach wellness as a lifestyle rooted in healing, alignment and sustainability from the inside out.

My business has evolved over the years starting with teaching wellness classed and hosting cooking workshops, to plant based meal prep services where I introduced people to plant based meals in practical accessible ways. Over the span of my business, I have held wellness focused events, which combined physical activity, mindfulness and community building. Today, I’m most excited about my latest venture: Planning and hosting wellness retreats. These retreats bring everything together; food, movement, mindfulness, and faith into an immersive experience designed to help people reset, recharge and reconnect with themselves in a meaningful way.

I’m so proud of “little Jah Jah,” for having moments where she needed rediscovery and for having so many lived experiences that have helped lead her to today; all the nonlinear moments shaped by personal challenges, anxiety, 2 ulcers, breakups, lost friendships, surviving a school shooting and seasons where I had to slow down and really evaluate HOW I was living and WHO I was living for; redefining my WHY. Even I, myself, have had to unlearn the ideas that wellness was just about doing more, and instead embrace that its about being more intentional. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that healing and growth require consistency, and not perfection. Unlearning years of limiting beliefs, releasing the world’s expectations, and seeing myself from a different lens has been the focus of my own self work and personal growth.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that this work is deeply personal. Its roots are in lived experience, unwavering faith, and a genuine desire to help others live a healthier, more grounded and more fulfilled lives. Wellness isn’t just what I do; It’s who I am. In every retreat, walk, class, conversation and event I create, I aim to help others step into their own journey of healing and transformation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The experience I’d give a visitor in this season is elevated, yet still grounded. We’d stay in my beautiful townhome, and upon arrival, I’d have a thoughtfully prepared plant-based meal waiting, paired with a bottle of wine, so we can skip the stress and ease straight into relaxation.

Day 1 would be all about settling in. We’d start with a light brunch at a cozy coffee shop like Day 6 Coffee Co., then head over to Hermann Park for a walk and a laid-back blanket moment to talk, unwind, journal and enjoy the outdoors. We’d wrap the day with an early dinner at a great Mexican spot; because you simply can’t visit Houston without it.

Day 2 would bring a little more energy. We’d explore the Houston Museum District, spending time at the African American History Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Afterward, we’d head to ChopnBlok for an early happy hour with great food, great vibes, and a touch of the motherland. The afternoon would include some fun thrifting, followed by getting dressed up for a beautiful dinner at Guard and Grace Houston to close out the night.

Day 3 would start with movement; maybe a Pilates class at Defy Pilates Houston or another fitness studio in the city. Brunch would be at Mo Better Brunch + Brews (a personal favorite), followed by a scenic walk or nature reset at the Houston Botanic Garden. We’d keep the evening light with takeout before heading out for live music at Bald Kitty or The Flat Houston or a cozy speakeasy vibe.

Day 4 would be our slow day. We’d sleep in and enjoy a homemade breakfast made by me, of course. Then we’d grab matcha lattes from a cute, aesthetic spot like Keiffeita and take our time working, chatting, and just being present. Later, we’d explore the city, snapping photos at iconic spots before heading to dinner at Taste Bar + Kitchen, hopefully catching some live music to end the night.

Some of my favorite places to visit are those where the energy is high but the experience still feels easy. I love spending time in Houston’s green spaces especially Hermann Park and Discovery Green. When I have a full day to dedicate to R&R, I’ll go to a Korean day spa for the entire day to REALLY soak up some “me time”. The museum district is always a go-to for a well-rounded day, and when it comes to food, any vegan spot will do; but Mo Brunch Brews truly has my heart.

For a night out, I’m drawn to more grown, elevated vibes like Doc’s for live Jazz and dinner. And because Houston is always alive with culture, I’d love to catch events like Jazz in the Park, Miller outdoor theatre, Afro Soca Love, Reggae Fest, vegan food festivals, or even a simple blanket picnic or bingo night just to be surrounded by the diversity and energy that makes the city so special.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I want to first give thanks and credit to My God for guiding my journey, and granting me the ability to see myself the way he sees me and sustaining this vision through every season. I’m also grateful for the communities of people who have supported my business in it’s many turns and encouraged me along the way even when things felt uncertain.
I’ll also shout out the life experiences that push me to grow, especially the most difficult ones that encourage me re-shift, to heal, and always realign back with my purpose. Those moments and seasons taught me how to live more intentionally, and now I get to pour that back into others.
