Meet Melissa Mitchell | Founder & Chief Planner at Cozy In Color

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Cozy In Color started with a purposeful vision. This vision was to channel my skills and creativity into a business I could call my own and one day share with my children, who have a natural love for celebrations. Based in Katy, Texas, Cozy In Color is your premier party rental resource, offering authentic client service, strong values, and a commitment to doing business the right way.
We place our core values at the heart of every client experience, delivering service that is thoughtful, intentional, often times bold in color and exceptional in style because no two events are ever the same. As I continue to grow Cozy In Color, I feel the pride and appreciation in my children’s eyes. They watch with admiration and excitement, eager to help with setups, and inspire me to keep building something meaningful. I have met some wonderful people too thus far who genuinely love and support Cozy In Color and that makes me happy.
This business is fueled by purpose, creativity, and a commitment to make a positive impact for our clients, while creating a legacy my children can one day carry forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity with professional expertise. Over the past twenty-one years, I’ve built a career providing high-level legal practice support across diverse roles including legal practice assistant, legal secretary, and paralegal at both boutique and global law firms in New York City, New Jersey, and Texas. I thrive when my creative and professional sides work in harmony; I cannot flourish in an environment that limits either.
I am most proud of the best versions of myself reflected in my children, and of the woman I have become. My strength, resilience, and dedication that I bring to everything I do. My accomplishments include graduating from college, becoming a published author and spoken word poet, founding two independent companies offering legal support, notary services, editing, and creative writing, becoming a mother and now bringing Cozy In Color to life. Cozy In Color provides high-quality party rental equipment, personalized one-on-one event planning, and themed workshops designed to make every celebration exceptional.
The journey has not been easy, but the road to meaningful impact rarely is. Cozy In Color is a bold, fun brand with a mission to serve the community and stand out at every type of celebration. Rooted in resilience, I cherish the opportunity to express my creativity and build a business I hope to one day pass on to my children. I encourage everyone to explore Cozy In Color through our mission and vision, which truly reflect what makes us unique.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I truly love all things creative – people, places, and experiences! When my best friend comes to town, we’re starting the day with an amazing brunch at Field & Tides. From there, we’d book a fun, hands-on workshop at Love & Make, then stop by Sneaks Coffee Lounge for a cocktail, good conversation, and some of our favorite ‘90s NYC classics. On the way back to my side of town, we’d grab takeout from one of my go-to spots, The Rouxpour.
During her stay, we’d spend time exploring the Museum District, visiting Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and The Health Museum. We’d also pick up new reads and candles from Kindred Stories, and treat ourselves to apple pie and peach cobbler from Ms. Myrtle’s Bakery Shoppe. The next evening, we’d gather with family for dinner at one of my favorite spots, KISS Restaurant & Lounge.
Of course, no visit would be complete without a little shopping. We would swing by Memorial City Mall and then head to the outlets. To wrap it all up, we’d squeeze in a quick yoga class and book a lymphatic treatment at Yacobwell for the perfect balance of fun and self-care.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give special recognition to my very first client, Amber Acosta, who trusted me with her wedding when Cozy In Color was just getting started. That opportunity not only allowed me to bring her vision to life but also helped me build a lasting relationship with her wedding planner, Brittany from Modern Posh, who has since referred me to additional clients and opportunities to showcase our party rental experiences.
I also want to acknowledge Jessica of Party Jess Productions, who gave me one of my earliest chances to demonstrate our custom creativity. She entrusted me with a large, highly visible wedding involving about 10 other vendors. When her client couldn’t find the perfect seating chart design, I was able to create a custom “It’s A Par-Tee” 250 golf wall seating chart, bringing the client’s vision to life for their special day.
Truly, every person who has liked, shared, followed, inquired, booked, or collaborated with us whether through vendor partnerships or sponsorships deserves a heartfelt thank you. We deeply value each connection and are especially grateful to those who share feedback, helping us grow and improve with every event.
