We had the good fortune of connecting with Donald Stutson II and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donald, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I saw how the world of fitness transformed my life not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. I wanted to create a space where people could grow in those three states as well. To hear my clients say, “This is the best hour of my day”, has been the greatest compliment to receive.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Spectra Strength is going on 7 years! When I opened the gym I wanted to place where a sea of different faces in terms of ethnicity, walks of life, lifestyle could be their genuine selves while pushing towards their fitness goals. Getting to 7 years was no walk in the park. Like any journey it has had its ups and downs but I’d like to say resilience and an open ear to wisdom has helped. We’ve had many challenges along the way, from tropical storm Harvey to my personal battle with cancer. Still Spectra stood only by God’s grace. What I’ve learned along the way is to never be afraid of being yourself and having your own style. Getting started I was so busy trying to conform to a mold thinking it was the right thing. Once I started doing my own thing the natural flow came. Spectra Strength a place where we will push you to grown to be the best version of you. The work is hard but we are one big family filled with joy and laughter. I’m a tough coach to please but that’s because I know you can go harder than you think.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely have to give a shoutout to my mentor Shondria Williamson. She owned a gym here in Houston known as CrossFit Graffiti. It was the most magical place ever. The energy, the vibe, the people all harmonious. She offered me an opportunity to coach at her gym. I mentioned I wanted to open my own gym some day and she showed me the ropes. Even to this day her wisdom continues to guide me! Thank you Boss Lady (as we like to call her)
