We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Chris Brazzle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Chris, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
It’s funny that you ask this question. I actually wrote a leadership book titled Outlier Leadership-The 5 No Excuses Habits of Outlier Leaders. The habits that I discuss in this book are indeed the habits that has helped me to succeed. I call these habits daily habits. For me, habits must occur daily because each day is a new day and each new day brings it own challenges. The first habit and probably one of the most important is constantly feeding my brain. I will be the first to tell you that I have a Bachelors, a Masters, a Specialist, and a Doctorate degree, yet I do not know everything. So I am continuing to find ways to grow and learn as much as I can to be even more successful. The second habit is inspiring others. There’s not too many things that I can name that brings me more joy than inspiring others. It is indeed my calling and I make it a habit to inject some inspiration to others on a daily. Another habit is always remembering the big picture. The times where I have taken my eyes off of the big picture are the times where I have failed. As a leader, the next habit is just as important as any and that’s remembering my influence. Because there are people that look up to me, people on my staff and people who I work with, my influence can either be toxic or want them coming back for more. So I am very intentional about how I am as a leader because I only want to influence others in a positive way. The fifth and final habit is daily reflection. This habit has been my most influential habit because I get to look back over the course of the day to see what I can do better for tomorrow or look at the day in the beginning and give myself that self talk that I will be better today than I were yesterday. So those are the habits that has helped me to succeed.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my world, I wear many hats. I am a Consultant, a Coach, an entrepreneur, a Professional Speaker and 2X Best Selling Author. As a consultant and coach, I help aspiring authors become Best Selling authors and learn how to turn their Best Selling book into a million dollars and beyond business. I am most proud of the fact that I am still going. In this world, when things get tough, most people quit. I can’t quit. I have to keep fighting and keep pushing. I am always evolving and always growing. It has not been an easy road. I have had to research and learn things that I didn’t know I would need to do. I use to look at things and just say to myself, i could do that. Boy was I wrong. At first. But after putting in the work, the time, the energy, I gained the skills I needed. And I am nowhere close to where I want to be and even when I get there, it’ll be time to grow even more. That’s how I overcome challenges. I continue to grow. I look at everything as an opportunity to add something new to my toolbox. This was something I learned along the way. Imagine if your only tool was a hammer. Everything would look like a nail to you. But when you realize that there are nails, screws, staples, paper clips, etc, you realize that you need other tools. My goal is for everyone to know that my brand is L.I.M.E.Light Transformations, where I educate and inspire youth and adult leaders to change their mindsets using my leadership principles in order to become the leaders they desire. In doing so, I provide the Love, Inspiration, Motivation, and Encouragement (L.I.M.E.Light) to help them transform into that leader.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I would start with a huge welcome games night at my house with other friends, drinks and food. And if the season was right, that food might look something like crawfish, snow crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausage. The next day, we would probably go downtown to Graffiti Park to check out a range of graffiti and street art while taking pictures and taking in the sites. Later, we’ll get something to eat at Fleur De Licious. If it’s safe to do so, one day we’ll go down to Galveston to Schlitterbahn and enjoy time with the kids and family. If we don’t eat at the park, we’ll go out to Pappadeaux for dinner. Another day, we’ll go check out a sports game either the Astros, Rockets or Texans (whoever is in season) and after we leave there, go down to City Centre and dine in at Cyclone Anaya’s Tex-Mex and drink some margaritas. Most likely shopping will be involved at the Galleria one day or some of the outlets around the city. Then later that night, go down near the Aquarium and do the bar on wheels at Houston Bike Bar. We may check out Top Golf and do an Escape Room. Will also check out Dave & Buster’s. Depending on the season, we’ll check out one of the top HS football or basketball games. Before my best friend head back home, it’s a must to take him to get the best BBQ in town at Killeen’s BBQ.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother deserves the credit. She is no longer with us but she taught me all about love and encouraging others. She was the example that I wanted to follow and have followed the most. The type of person she was and how she cared and loved other people is nothing like I have ever seen. There are other coaches and mentors who have helped me along the way in my professional career. There are books and quotes that I have read along the way. There are other professionals who I watch and try to learn from either on TV, YouTube, or other social media platforms. But when I put two and two together, I always go back to my foundation. And that’s my mother. I am definitely built on a solid foundation which allows me to stand the test of time.
