We had the good fortune of connecting with DR. LAKISHA GREEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DR. LAKISHA, how do you define success?
For me, success is self-government. It is an awareness in knowing that everything is a seed, and we harvest the fruitfulness or the weeds thereof. Success is not an accomplishment, destination, or arrival but rather a mindset of everything done in the spirit of excellency. The greater understanding, I have of myself and self-awareness, the greater my successes are in business, motherhood, social settings, and every other facet of this life. When we consciously designate time and effort toward self-improvement the entrepreneurial journey overall is a success. Learning from our failures and flaws is most important in the quest for success. Both the victories and the setbacks are purposed to teach and stretch us, and constant self-awareness makes this never-ending journey both fulfilling and rewarding.

What should our readers know about your business?
Epiphanies Dessert Studio is a custom dessert company with over 35 years of experience. We offer an array of desserts and specialty items. Our signature buttercream is the staple item and what sets us apart is that we create edible art with our buttercream. The taste, smell and texture are unmatched. The “secret ingredients” are love and simple goodness. We are most proud of our exclusive desserts in a jar line which is quite popular and provided us wholesaler opportunities with local restaurants, eateries, and other establishments. Consistency, great customer relations, and service are part of what brought us where we are today. Owning and operating businesses is never easy, nor do we expect it to be. We simply set a culture and standard of excellence in all that we do. What we do is never deemed work, we are creators and innovators. Our bakery and creative spaces are designed with the whole individual in mind. While in preparation and creation mode, our spaces allow for mental stimulation and holistic and spiritual practices in a teachable way. We believe that the best creations arise from a space of intentionality, love, and gratefulness. If at any time this is not the mindset, the task at hand may be passed on to a fellow teammate to allow for some holistic interventions. Our first duty is always in the best interest of our team. We would like the world to know that an epiphany is a great realization and something you will discover at first bite!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have many fun and interesting places to visit here in Houston, TX and we are becoming increasingly known for our brunch and Sunday Funday scene. With that, we have some delicious eateries around town starting with Hitters BBQ where you can find our famous desserts in a jar, Brown Sugar Cafe and Bookstore has tons of great activities for all ages, and Fenix Lounge HTX has live music karaoke and games. There is also a lot of nature activities Downtown, in Midtown, and the Heights area such as scenic bike and walking trails, art museums, and vintage shops. As for the brunch and Sunday Funday spots, we have countless locations but one that is always a great time is The Drunken Korner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story includes several contributions of love, support, and mentorship. My three sons have always championed and supported me with love, kindness, and understanding. Raising them on my own post-divorce, with the support and guidance of their mentors had me stretched pretty thin but we always created a workable plan. My mother and siblings are also invaluable contributors to my on-growing success. The countless days and nights of free labor and the constant referrals and collaborations always made me know that I am supported and loved. One of my dear mentors, Dr. Sharon Parker whom I befriended during our time in grad school together is my prayer warrior and safe space partner. I’ve also been privileged to have some amazingly dope and supportive clients who spread the word effortlessly about my businesses and accomplishments.
