Meet Elena Beaudry | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elena Beaudry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elena, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
They say life moves pretty fast, but I’ve found a way to slow it down. As the owner of Digital Dark Skies Photography, I enjoy capturing the high-energy and high-emotion moments that make our community so vibrant. From the spotlight of the stage, to the intimacy of the altar, I’m obsessed with the ‘in-between’ moments, the ones you’ll want to relive a decade from now. My mission? To turn fleeting celebrations into permanent memories. Because every performance, every ‘I do,’ and every milestone is a piece of history worth keeping. I believe that every photo is a gift to the future. My work ensures that today’s celebrations and events become tomorrow’s family and community history. I don’t just take photos; I witness moments. I value being fully present to capture the subtle glances and electrifying energy that others might miss. Whether it’s a dimly lit stage or a sun-drenched wedding, I commit to high-caliber storytelling that honors the artistry of the performers and the authenticity of whatever is in front of my lens.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up with a huge appreciation for art and enjoyed using my hands, heart and eye for it. I took and favored art classes throughout my grade school years. I also took music classes and became a bit of a musician myself. But of course, that’s another story for another time. Later I was given a camera and decide to explore the world of photography. I soon fell in love with it and treated it like another form of art. I wanted to pursue it, so I attended art school. I attended The University of Art Academy in San Fransico, California, then went on to Sessions College for Professional Art and Design in Tempe, Arizona where I graduated with a degree in digital photography. While studying, I started shooting shows for the locals here. I become known in the Houston area for my work, and help in promotion. I can honestly say it was not hard getting around. I do a lot of work in helping promote bands I’m hired for, as well as making them look good behind my lens. I also enjoy being more versatile and when I’m not a shows, I enjoy working with other clients such as models, families, or individuals. The only real challenge in this profession, is trying to stand out and be different. I strive to stand out and have my own individuality. My own identity. My own style that no one can duplicate. That to me is also a lesson I was taught in running my business . Because if you don’t stand out, people won’t notice you. And to me leaving my mark is important after my task is done. One thing I want the world to know about my brand and story is my sole purpose. My purpose is to pursue my goals in becoming a renowned photographer, who makes a significant impact in my community through my work, and dedication. I aspire to leave a lasting legacy in this community and beyond. I want to be recognized as the person who made her clients look their best and documented countless cherished memories for everyone to enjoy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a photographer in the music scene, I’d take a visitor to where Houston’s energy is the loudest.
We’d start at Scout Bar. It’s a local legend for the rock and metal community, the lighting is always intense, the crowd is dedicated, and it’s hosted everyone from national acts to our best local talent. For a larger show, we’d head to Warehouse Live Midtown or BFE Rock Club. These spots are great because they bridge the gap between heavy, high energy sets and the visually striking backdrop of the city. To wrap up, we’d grab a beer at Dan Electro’s in the Heights. It’s a historic ‘guitar bar’ that’s been an incubator for local talent for decades. It’s got that authentic, worn-in atmosphere that looks incredible on camera and feels like the true heart of Houston rock.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to all those who support me and continue to trust me in capturing their important moments. I want to include all the bands I’ve worked with, and the ones that continue to come back. My little family which includes my husband and daughter for pushing me to continue moving forward in what I do. My closest friends I’ve made in the scene while I’m hard at work, for keeping me going. They know who they are. My mentor in photography Ms. Lauren Cohen for all the wonderful advice she’s given me. Last but not least, Voyage Houston for the awesome opportunity in telling my story. Thank you!
