We had the good fortune of connecting with Elena Navarro Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elena, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
What’s my end goal? I had to think about this for a while before continuing to type. My end goal is to feel at peace, have financial freedom, success in something that I am passionate about and live the life I’ve always dreamt of living. I’m almost 24 and a lot of people older than me will tell me that I have time but do I? The things I want will not come overnight or by the snap of fingers; I have to put the work into it now. (or maybe I’ll get lucky and meet the right person after they read this.) To get closer to my end goal, I’m continuing my education and continuing to learn things in the field that I’m currently in. Although I’m not passionate about what I’m currently doing, I know I’ll have to do somethings that I don’t like to be able to reach my end goal. When I reach my end goal, I see myself truly living my best dreams, I see myself having a well established business, I see myself being able to help others and who knows maybe I’ll learn to really like my current career, real estate. The end goal is to leave a permanent mark; to leave something that was worth the sacrifice.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Let’s start with real estate. To my surprise, it took me longer than expected to complete the 180 hours of courses. Not because it was hard, it just required a lot of attention and focus. I was finishing a semester of college while doing that so it wasn’t my priority. I won’t lie I failed the test a couple times due to my lack of studying but after a prep course; I passed very easily. Now that I am a licensed Realtor®, I try to provide a 5 star service to very person I speak to. I remember details that seem insignificant but when it’s bought up, they’re surprised/happy I remembered. My observation of details is what sets me apart from other brokerages. I am only two years into my real estate career so I still have lots more to learn. One of challenges I’m facing right now is being seen as someone that is younger than everyone else. I’ve worked with a lot of people who are older than me by a lot and unfortunately some will treat/talk to you a certain way because you are younger than them. For anyone else experiencing this, you have to prove them wrong. Now for Daly’s Jewels, our Instagram presence isn’t as strong as we’d like it to be but we are grateful for the people that share pieces they’ve bought. We used to sell to friends and family before we made the Instagram page; they would share where they got their bracelets, necklaces and/or rings. Once we made the Instagram page, the hardest part was reaching the right audience. I’ve learned you really have to be on top of that and post as much as you can. Daly’s Jewels started as a hobby but now I’m looking into different options (even if that means they won’t be handmade.) My mom and I would like to grow it because our meaning behind jewelry sets us apart. We believe the body is a temple and you should be able to decorate it to your liking without judgement. I’m currently wearing over 20 pieces of jewelry and I feel great!
Overall, the biggest challenge is time but I’m excited for the new changes.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A little itinerary if my best friend were to visit. First spot, lunch in Midtown. Either JINYA or Cyclone Anaya’s Tex-Mex. Both places have really good food. At JINYA, their vegan bowl is very creamy and filling. Cyclone has tasty fish tacos and really good margaritas. After lunch, shopping at the Galleria because they have every store! Maybe watch the Astros at Minute Maid Park. For nightlife, bar hopping in Midtown. Wonder Bar is a cool spot. They have fun backgrounds for pictures and a hidden room. For the rest of the week, visiting different cities. San Antonio’s Riverwalk, Austin’s Barton Springs Lake and Galveston’s Kemah Boardwalk.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have many people to thank for my current and upcoming success. My parents, of course have been very supportive in every direction I take. They have supported me through school, creative decisions and career paths. My close family members have always encouraged me to think big and take every opportunity that presented itself to me. I’d like to thank another person who I got to work along with. When I was really struggling due to covid, she gave me the opportunity to go into real estate and took the time to train me.
My friends and boyfriend for always hyping up my ideas. To the teachers that saw my potential because I wasn’t the best student. To anyone to who gave me motivation, confidence and belief.
