Meet Felipe Barajas: Owner of “Felipe’s Creations” & Cake Decorator, Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Felipe Barajas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felipe, why did you pursue a creative career?
I believe that I pursued an artistic or creative career because making a cake is not just mixing ingredients. it is a lot more than that. Being able to come up with a design and create something wonderful that is going to make my customers happy is priceless. I strongly believe that there is art in what I do, whether its on the inside or the outside of the cake, its all art. I am also a very creative person and I love to come up with new, fresh ideas that will ensure my customers love the experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
When I first started getting into the baking world I was only 11 years old. My mom used to make us cakes from a box cake mix until one day she just decided to stop. Me being the kid that I was I love cake so I then decided to make them myself. After practicing for hours, days, weeks and months, 2 years later “Felipe’s Creations” was created. “Felipe’s Creations” started since 2013 and has been growing until then. Now I am 20 Years old, and let me tell you it was not easy. I am very proud of myself for not giving up, these past years haven’t been easy but I’ve learned how to accomplish and get over obstacles along the way. I believe what sets me apart from others is not just the fact that I started my business at the age of 13, but also my unique flavors of cakes. All these years since the business started I’ve learned how to perfect my recipes and make them outstanding and delicious. Nothing was easy and it still isn’t, but my main message to all those who might be interested in starting a business would probably be to just go for it, do it. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you, don’t let things get in your way of your success. If you strongly believe in it, you will accomplish anything in life and that’s something I would want the world to know about me, I never gave up and still haven’t, so just believe in yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

One of my favorite spots in the city would have to be Discovery Green, I just love the atmosphere, its so diverse and sometimes there’s so much to do. I also love visiting the Houston Zoo, it brings me peace to just walk around and enjoy seeing the animals as well as learning from each and every one of them. The city of Houston just has so much to offer, and its great. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all, I would like to thank my family for the continuous support and for always being there and helping me accomplish my crazy goals. I would also like thank all of those who in some way have supported my business since the beginning or even now, and they know who they are. And lastly but not least my customers, without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. So Thank You to everyone.
