We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Gilbreath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue an artistic/creative career simply because I know it is my gift to the world to provide entertainment to the public. I have always been artistic and creative my whole life. I can’t imagine having any other job.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love what I do as a performance artist. I really put a lot of time, effort, and practice into my career. I am proud of all of the different acts that I can do as a performance artist. My acts range from Stilt Walking, Aerial, Fire Performance, LED Performance, Hula Hooping/Prop Manipulation, and GoGo Dancing. I am excited to be continuing my career as a performer in Florida and I am planning on moving there in April! I got to where I am today through a lot of hard, consistent work, practice, and networking with a lot of people in my industry. It was not easy! Living the life of a creative means that you are the direct product of what you put out into the world. You create your own opportunities and income, and nothing is ever guaranteed. It took years of hard work and dedication, over coming rejection, and getting the right people in my circle to help me succeed. I have learned that if you want to be successful in this industry that you must make the most of your time to invest in your training and skills and having the best equipment possible and always maintaining that equipment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend were to visit Houston, I would take them to see the art museums, Discovery Green, Menil Park, Hermann Park, Lawrence Park, Smithers Park, the Orange Show, a water park such as Typhoon Texas or Splash Town, Numbers Night Club, any shows that my talented friends would be putting on, and Galveston. All of the bars on Washington are a lot of fun such as Bottled Blonde, Pearl Bar, Velvet Taco, and many more. I also love going to the Montrose Bars such as Lola’s, Boheme, and Poison Girl just to name a few. The burlesque shows in Houston are also very entertaining and most are thrown by Nikki Knockout, Bambi LaBamba, Derringer-do Revue, and the Rock ‘N’ Roll Revue just to name a few!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people in my life that I can give thanks to who have helped me along the way! I give thanks to my family for supporting me and cheering me on during my performance journey and they have even bought clothing and props to help me along the way to grow in my career! I also want to thank my bestfriend Joan from high school whom I’ve been friends with for 16 years who has helped me with my website, business cards, and getting pictures and videos for me. I also thank my best friends Nichola Lauren and Justus Durbin who have gotten pictures and videos for me as well and have supported along the way in my career. I also have a long list of multiple photographer and videographer friends such as justkixin, Alexander Van Fleet, Chris Pinon, Danni Hernandez, Dennis Hale, J Thomas, Sam Hsu, Chris Spicks, C.Mac Photography, and Tyger Tyler just to name a few who have taken pictures and videos of me during performances and photoshoots over the years to capture all of the memorable moments in my career. I also thank my tailors Caitlin Caseli and Gin Martini for creating beautiful costuming pieces for me over the years. I also thank my amazing mentors Abbigail Arevalo and Krystin Railing for giving me guidance along the way in my performance career by giving me career advice in all aspects of the business. I also thank all of my amazing friends in the creative/performance community for supporting me as well and having a lot of fun working/collaborating together as well. I also thank all of the wonderful entertainment companies such as Texan Heat Nerdlesque, Kinky Circus at Numbers, Cirque And Destroy, Fly Girl Entertainment, Show Business Entertainment, Incredible Events, Dreamland Entertainment, Star Force, J&D Entertainment, Best Entertainers, Circus Dreams & Co, and Aura Entertainment just to name a few who have given me great opportunities and hired me to perform at their events. I also thank all of my other friends I have met along the way in my life who support me. Thank you everyone!
