We had the good fortune of connecting with Hippie Yaya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hippie, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Time! How do you want to spend your time here on earth. It’s so precious and not granted to everyone. I realized that unfortunately I spent so much time wasting it on things I felt like didn’t deserve my energy. I learned through my mistake, I have to work smarter not harder. All the scarifies I’ve made I want it to be worth something, I want it to be able to free me financially. Being able to be free financially will allow me to have more time for my family and myself. I’m no longer wasting my time, I’m maximizing on it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a true definition of a entrepreneur, I have several businesses. My main business is my hair business, I’ve been a hairstylist for 8 years and I’ve been selling hair products for 2 years now. I’m extremely happy to announce I just closed a product deal with Jollabella Beauty Supply Store. That meant a lot to me because that is another way to make residual income. My husband and I own several properties in Cleveland, Ohio as well as Houston, Tx. We also have a Turo business and we rent our 3 of our cars, which is a great business. Our last business is our independent living facility, which we take pride and joy in. Having all these businesses allows me to create multiple streams of income which will help me build a legacy for my boys. The greatest accomplishment will be for me is being able to create a different lifestyle for my family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in third ward and I’m extremely proud of my neighborhood, it’s so embracing and family oriented. I honestly don’t go around outside my area lol it has everything I will need. Here is list of restaurants I will take them to Phil & Derek, Taste Bar, Sunshine’s and many more black owned restaurants that are in my area. I really love a good Sunday Funday, we would go to Chapman & Kirby then head over to Bar 5015 and end the night there. I also love vegan food and I have several different restaurants within third ward as well as midtown I would take them by. So if you haven’t noticed yet I love to eat as well as hangout with my family and friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My amazing husband, he is the absolute best. I’m extremely grateful to have him and he has supported me through it all. He would pick me up when I was down, he would also encourage me or motivate me when I felt uninspired. I thank him for being there for me and always in my corner. I also want to shout out my mom, she is so amazing. She is the reason I’m the woman I am today, she taught me how to grind and work hard at a very young age. My mom will do anything for me and she will always be there for me no matter what. So I just want to thank her too and let her know it’s my turn to take care of her the way she took care of me.
