We had the good fortune of connecting with Iq Food and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi IQ, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Communication. I am not the type to sit back and wait for people to come to me, I prefer to reach out to people, talk shop with owners, make connections with the people in my niche. Once people know who you are, they are a lot more likely to work with you!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been working in media since 2012, which is coincidentally soon after I began freelancing in food alongside my full time career, and I have never stopped developing my skills since. Unlike many other creatives, I did not stick to one particular job type or clientele at the start – rather, I worked just outside my comfort zone in wherever I could find an opportunity, and taught myself what I needed to get things done. As I finally begin to funnel down into food photography now over a decade later, I know that all the skills of my past are here making me unique.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Obviously I have to include a few of my favorite Zabihah (Islamically Compliant) halal restaurants around DFW, this isn’t an exhaustive list but I highly recommend you get through all of them:
• West African Way
• Mr. Pide
• Kebab Uncle
• Bilads Bakery
• The Cluckin’
• Halal Cuts
• Spice Wok
• Bagelology
That’s great for food, but there’s also lots of fun activities for adults, such as the entire Grandscape and Stonebriar districts, EVA VR or Lake Lewisville.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be here without the Dallas-Fort Worth Muslim community. My page and my business does not exist without them as owners, customers and followers.
