We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jada, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
From my very first job in high school, I felt a spark, a sense of purpose, that I was meant to be my own boss and build something meaningful. I’ve loved doing hair since I was 14; there’s something special about helping people feel beautiful and confident. When I was 16, I went through a challenging experience, and creating beauty through hair became a powerful way for me to cope and heal. This journey not only helped me grow personally but showed me how impactful making others feel good could be. All of this inspired me to start my own business, turning my passion into a purpose-driven venture with Snooty.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey to where I am today has been shaped by faith, my support system, and a lot of determination. I wouldn’t be here without God and the incredible village behind me. I’m proud to have faced and overcome every obstacle—from being robbed to launching my business at the start of a pandemic. Owning a business might look “fun and cute,” but it’s far from easy! I’ve had to build my own path without a mentor to guide me, figuring out the ins and outs of running a business through trial and error. The lessons I’ve learned along the way have taught me resilience, patience, and the power of not giving up.

I want the world to know that Snooty isn’t just a brand to me—it’s my heart and soul. I’ve poured everything into it, from DIY projects to days spent hustling through the challenges, even when it meant making personal sacrifices. My clients and customers have been a huge part of my journey, and their support has kept me going.

Starting this business at 16 and getting my first brick-and-mortar location at 21 was no small feat, but here I am, five years later, having expanded Snooty in ways I could only dream of back then. It’s been a journey filled with growth and change, and I wouldn’t trade any part of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had someone visiting Houston, we’d definitely start right where my shop is—in the vibrant Galleria area! It’s the perfect spot, packed with bars, lounges, and endless happy hours. We’d kick things off with some shopping at the Galleria mall, then hit up a rooftop lounge nearby for drinks with a view. For food, Houston’s got everything from upscale dining to incredible Tex-Mex and BBQ, so we’d have no shortage of spots to try.

I’d make sure to show them some of the trendiest lounges and restaurants in the city—places like Bloom & Bee for brunch, The Rustic for a laid-back evening, and maybe a night out at Camp or Lost & Found for that real Houston vibe. And, of course, I’d give them the inside scoop on all the hottest spots where locals love to hang out. There’s always something exciting going on in Houston, and I love making sure my out-of-town customers experience the best of it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If anyone deserves recognition in my journey, it’s my mom. She has truly been my backbone, supporting me every step of the way as I started my business and inspired me to pursue hairstyling from a young age. Not only is she the co-owner of Snooty Hair Boutique, but she was also the very first person to invest in this dream, believing in me when no one else did. I remember it so vividly—her encouragement, her guidance, and her unwavering faith have shaped both my business and my healing. My mom is the heart behind Snooty, and together we make a powerful team. I owe so much to her, and I’m incredibly grateful to have her by my side.
