We had the good fortune of connecting with Jade Robertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jade, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown. I like this book because it was the start to my “self” journey, self-love, self-growth, self-protection, vulnerability, and trust within myself and within my feelings. Braving the Wilderness is basically about being able to stay true to yourself in the midst of the storm, in the midst of the unpredictability that life brings. Learning how to trust yourself, being comfortable in your skin, being yourself and not conforming to others, not letting others opinions of you get you down were all things that resonated with me from the book. It was very impactful because I didn’t realize how much I was not in tune with myself and how often I was doing things that I thought people wanted me to do, not because I wanted to do them. I think it is a good read for those who are in the public eye as well because people are always going to have opinions and things to say, but if you are comfortable and confident in who you are, you can always find peace in the chaos. Since the book allowed me to be more comfortable with myself, it allowed me to be comfortable with taking risks. I try to be optimistic when it comes to how things will turn out and with the “what ifs”, like “what if it turns out greater than you’ve ever expected”. The risk I took was putting myself out there in content creation, influencer marketing space, but the reward for when it works out will be more travel, non-traditional work, fulfilling opportunities, networking, and a more remote lifestyle. I think that outweighs being stuck in something that you’re not passionate about any day!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my end goal, my why. My end goal is to work with brands, use my platform in a positive way to change people’s outlook on life and help those who are less fortunate be able to experience things that they would never get to experience on a normal basis. This started when I was in college and started making friends. Hearing their life experiences and realizing that growing up in Louisiana and living through Hurricane Katrina, many children did not get the same experiences that I did. Hearing those experiences led me down a rabbit hole of feeling for children and people in general, who never get to experience certain joys of life due to the conditions they are in or were born into. Learning that as an adult you’ve never been on an airplane or even went to Six Flags just didn’t sit right with me. Whether it’s through clothing, makeup, skin care, travel, literally all of it, I’ve seen how fortunate I have been in my lifetime so far. I have seen how less fortunate people have been. I think it’s so sad and so unfair that kids are born into poverty and have to work so hard to get out of it to experience the simple joys of life that everyone should be given.

How did I get to where I am now? When I was younger, I used to record skits on the Mac desktop and make videos with my friends to edit on iMovie for fun. That’s what we did during our sleepovers. I decided to pursue a creative career because why not get paid for doing something I love. I’ve always wanted to love a job so much to the point it doesn’t feel like work. Has it been easy? No. Finding the motivation can be hard sometimes, thinking of the ideas, finding and buying the clothes I’m showing is not cheap. Through that I’ve learned to stay consistent and keep my eyes on what I want, not just for me, but for others and the bigger picture.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For drinks- I love going to the Four Seasons Hotel. I know it sounds a bit strange, but in my opinion they have the best tasting margs in Houston. They have a pretty cool speakeasy in the Four Seasons as well. The Hilton has a nice indoor rooftop bar to watch the sunset and relax. To visit- I would say definitely Buffalo Bayou Park, I love to walk around and wind down there. I would also visit Post Htx for food, drinks, and views on the rooftop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my support system! My support system keeps me motivated, holds me accountable, and supports me through all of the obstacles and challenges I face! I wouldn’t be so confident and courageous enough to even take the leap of being a content creator without their effort!
