Meet Jasmine Medel | Barber and mini barbershop owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Medel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistency is the cornerstone of my success. I strive to deliver the same quality of service to each client, making sure their expectations are met and that they’re happy when they leave.

What should our readers know about your business?
Becoming self employed was one of the scariest jumps I’ve ever made in life. It was truly a sink or swim situation. I knew the road ahead was going to be long, but I was prepared to put in the work. In the beginning, I’d work all day at the shop and then go work all night as a hostess to make ends meet because I refused to give up on myself. This was day in and day out, and it was exhausting. I gave consistency paired with improvement to my clients and they stayed faithful while I had my growing pains. I am proud to say I am a safe space for people to relax, speak freely, and unwind during their service. My business is LGBTQ friendly, so I am grateful to have an array of people that trust me. I’ve learned to be even more caring, understanding, and supportive as my clients are more than just clients, they’re people that have hardships just as I do. I want the world to know this is so much more than my job, it’s what truly makes me happy. My people are what make me great, and the fact that anyone books with me is truly what makes me excited. Their trust in me is the best feeling.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend deserves a fun time so we would take a trip over to Meow Wolf to enjoy colorful art exhibits where we could unwind and take cute photos together. Since she loves drinks and snacks, we’d absolutely stop at Postinos for their charcuterie and wines! We’re definitely keeping the fun and light hearted vibe going, so Flight Club is next so we can giggle at how bad we are at aiming. I love their atmosphere because it’s laid back and exciting. For food, I’m taking my girl to Birrieria y Micheladas for some amazing Mexican food and you know we gotta slide over to the farm to pet all the cute animals!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad is my biggest supporter. I’ve always been passionate about hair. When I was in high school, I told him I wanted to be a hairstylist and he supported me wholeheartedly. He paid for me to enter a cosmetology program when I was just 15 years old because he believed in me from the start. That’s where my journey began, and I’m so grateful for his unwavering faith in me. He’s stood by me as I tried everything until I realized my true love was being a barber.
