We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Amoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We came up with the idea of We Luv Spudz while living in Alabama. There was limited number of good places to eat but the landscape to create was present. When we moved back to Houston in 2020, we had no choice but to launch the build your own spud idea. We cultivated the idea while creating Savoury dishes in our home and now we are able to feed many people.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a reliability engineer by trade and work for a consulting firm. Balancing this with a full-time operating food service Mealprepcafe (WE Luv Spudz). We operate two mobile food units, and now a brick-and-mortar kitchen. I am most proud of the experiences we have been able to accomplish in a short period of time (2.5 years). We focus on Catering, Carnivals, Concessions, and Concerts. We’ve been able to reach our goals through cultivating good relationships and partnerships. This wasn’t an easy task, but we have strong team that is adaptable and ready to work! Some lessons learned along the way is to never burn any bridges and never conduct bad business. Treat everyone as an owner because you never know who may give you a big contract to provide meals. I want the world to know that our brand is about speaking the universal language that all cultures speak, “good food”. We are in the business of providing good food to everyone no matter their background.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If i had a friend visiting Houston, I would first put together a cookout at the house. Whether it be a bbq, fishfry or crawfish boil. Showing them around the city, would have to take them to eat at Lotus, find the best tacos such as Dona Letis, any of the brands owned by Alife is always a good choice, and current go to spot for drinks is K&P social in Pearland. Family based wise i would invite them out to Largo Mar blue lagoon in Texas city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my wife & kids, that allow us to thrive as a business by adapting through the many events and schedules we do a year. Along with Travis from The Funnel Bar who encouraged us to get started.
