We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Gretzer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Being known I am someone that people can rely on when it comes to truthworthyness, communication, and reliability. This stems from choosing my environment and the community of people I align with. I thrive within other people’s energy more than myself. If I’m in an environment where that isn’t present, then there’s no point in existing in that space. It’s why I
I’m rarely ever at home unless I’ve spent a good amount of time with people I associate and/or work with.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an Associate Contributor at ClutchPoints covering the Houston Rockets. This job took a year and a half to obtain, mainly due to growing my portfolio of Sports blogging. I started my journalism career at Back Sports Page as an intern and worked my way up to Social Media Manager and Editor. This path was unpaid and lots of rigorous work. Opportunities were infrequent, and sometimes I received backlash from critics on Social Media. Long hours of podcasting, editing, writing, and research on top of keeping my bills in check along with a day job, but it gave me many opportunities as a writer to cover NBA Basketball and meet several NBA players along the way. This experience landed me as a paid Associate Contributor position at ClutchPoints. I am most proud of this endless work that I’ve done to get paid doing what I love.

What sets me apart from others is that I don’t just enjoy blogging behind a computer screen. I enjoy the on-camera sports content such as vlogs, content creation, and video editing. When a report comes out, I not only write about it, but I offer a video style version as well to cater to multiple audiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is a huge city, so we’re sticking with places in close proximity. Here’s an itinerary for a weekend

Friday- we’re going to the Breakfast Klub. Time to really convince my best friend why Houston’s food scene is top 2 in the country. Next we are going to spend the day renting scooters at Scoots on Emancipation and scoot all through downtown and the Buffalo Bayou river. To park our scooters we will hit up downtown Main St. and visit one of the oldest downtown buildings that has a food hall underground called Underground Hall. Next we’ll keep it close and go thrifting in Montrose and hit up Leopard Lounge and Pavement while we sip our coffees from Agora. Following that we’ll get dinner and a couple drinks at La Colombe D’or and then finish the day off chilling on hammocks, checking out food trucks and openmic nights at Axelrad.

Saturday – Waking up late but we are hitting the Museum District with Brunch at Barnaby’s and the Museum of Fine Arts shortly thereafter. Next, we will head straight for the Heights and check out sushi at KA for happy hour and spend the rest of the late afternoon bar hopping on 20th street Heights Bars. Finally, we’ll finish off with a couple drinks and greasy burgers at Post Houston Skylawn looking over Downtown Houston’s skyline. To cap it off, we’ll hit up downtown main street bars such as Notsouh, Behind Closed Doors, and checking out Frank’s Pizza after the bars close.

Sunday – Our energy’s a bit depleted for sure, so we’ll spend most of the day relaxing at Brass Tacks with some coffee and bites, check out an daytime Astros game at Minute Maid Park, then go to dinner at Flora’s. Following this we will spend a nightcap at the Post Oak Hotel rooftop.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
