We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Murillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cactus Flowers is a 3 piece desert-rock band hailing from Houston TX. I’m proud to be a female musician representing women creating music and rocking out just as hard as anyone else. Our biggest challenge is being an unsigned band – so everything we do is self funded. While it can be stressful at times, touring and meeting fans throughout the country is amazing and sharing the connection of art with others continues to inspire us to write new music and keep pushing forward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eat: Oporto – for amazing food, ambiance, and dining experience. Tacos Dona Lena – street tacos, tostadas, and a rainbow spicy array of hot sauces
Burger Bodega – THE BEST smash burgers and chopped cheese in town

Drink: Padres – well curated wine selection, casual, light bites
Little Dipper – dive bar in downtown with cheap drinks, great bourbon selection, and pinball
Re:Hab Bar on the Bayou – bar nestled on the bayou in the heights featuring free live music every Wednesday, Friday,
& Sunday and very sweet bar cats

Visit / Hang: Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park – picnic with an amazing backdrop
Continental Club /Shoeshine Charley’s Big Top – Live Music
David Adickes Beatles Statues at 8th Wonder Brewery

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my story to Alexis Murillo, my mother who recently passed away. Alexis was a freelance rock photographer in the sixties for Rolling Stone Magazine and Cream Magazine and her journey has inspired and continues to inspire my story.
