We had the good fortune of connecting with Dajiah Devine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dajiah, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson that my business has taught me is to KEEP GOING. There are going to be days where you have no sales, no one likes your posts and sometimes no motivation because it can be discouraging when you feel like you aren’t getting noticed for your talent, customer service or what you have to offer but you have to keep pushing through. I have learned that consistency and networking is EVERYTHING when it comes to your small business if you want to keep going and if you are serious you will do everything you can to learn, to grow and to get to that next level.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My goal for The Boujie Barb has always been to set myself apart from others in my industry with excellent customer service. Customer service plays a key role in having retuning customers. Each item whether hair extensions or a custom wig unit are all made and/or packaged with care. I always make sure to include special gifts and keep an open line of communication even outside of business hours with all customers. The last key to great customer service is also being as knowledgeable as possible in your industry to gain the trust of a potential customer because if you are not knowledgeable in what you do then you cannot expect a future customer, so remember there is always room to learn and grow.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are sooo many places to go in Houston that the possibilities are ENDLESS! I think some of the places I would definitely have to go for food/drinks would be Turkey Leg Hut, Atomic Bottle, Kamp Houston, Parma, Seafood Connection, That Funnel Cake Place, Caobao Buns, Shokku Ramen, Crawfish and Beignets. Shopping at the Galleria and Willowbrook Mall and top it off by visiting the Zoo, the Aquarium, Memorial Park, some painting with a twist event.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a whole list of people honestly but to keep it short I Just want to thank everyone in my corner, all the friends, family, strangers and my loyal customers that have been rooting for me since the beginning. I greatly appreciate everyone who has been apart of my journey to get where I am today. There were times where I wanted to give up and they pushed me even further and encouraging me to never give up and seeing the potential in my business when some days I did not see it myself.
