We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Pates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to be able to provide therapy services to help people become the best versions of themselves and in my community, there is a stigma that we don’t get therapy and just manage our problems. But the truth is everyone needs help and it is okay to need help and not feel like you have to be strong all the time. Because the truth is it takes a village and I wanted to provide a space to be a village for those who are willing and ready to become the best versions of themselves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Under Supervision of Dr. Cheryl Ivory MA., PhD, LPC-S. Jes Live Therapy Services offers therapy services to those who are seeking guidance counsel through the every day life issues. My goal is to assist people with becoming the best versions of themselves. Life can be hard at times and overwhelming, but I believe that creating that support system (village) of people who uplift you in your time of needs makes all the difference. It would be a pleasure to support you where you currently are in your life and assist you with getting through difficult moments.

I would not be where I am today without the guidance of my many peers in the field. It has not been an easy road but my passion allows me to keep going and never give up. I have always had a love of helping others. When I decided to pursue counseling as a major my goal was to give others what I needed. To help people understand that yes life is hard and it is not an easy journey but if I can equip people with the necessary tools to navigate life’s journey. I would want the world to know that I offer a safe place to share their struggles.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a foodie and I love the outdoors. So our itinerary for the week would include exploring downtown such as Buffalo Bayou Park, Houston Arboretum & Nature Center Then hit up a few brunch places like: Houston Bunch at Bonive & Barley, City Cellar, Claws HTX, Bungalow, Sunset Houston, Hangry;s , The Garden Midtown, Lotus Seafood, Clutch Bar, Juliet HTX,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to personal give a shoutout to my clinical supervisor Dr. Cheryl Ivory she has been amazing in helping me along the way. Her support and leadership has helped me tremendously. Also one of my dearest friends Jourdan Renfro with Something to Think About Therapy PLLC I have been able to lean on him throughout this process, which has not been an easy journey by far. He is a great inspiration and I am honored to call him my friend.
