We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhon Guarin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhon, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
The Book is: Your Next Five Moves (Master the Art of Business Strategy) By Patrick Bet-David with Greg Dinkin This book is my favorite book so far! My wife and I are partnered with PHP Agency, Inc. and our CEO, Patrick Bet-David, released the book a few weeks ago. In a short amount of time the book has enriched our lives with purpose and clarity, helping us define what our next five moves will be. The thing I appreciate the most is the book’s practical and effective guide on strategies that will accelerate one’s career. I am extremely confident that anyone who reads this book will obtain clarity on themselves, goals waiting to be accomplished, but most importantly who they want to be in life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work as one of the head coaches at Juventus Academy Houston, where I was graced the chance of being able to coach throughout the pandemic. I am also blessed with the opportunity of being part of a recession proof industry alongside my wife with PHP Agency, Inc., the industry of finance, located here in the heart of Houston, TX. Although there have been many trials and tribulations along the way, I am appreciative of them, being that at the end of the day that is what helps us advance in life. To start, it was difficult to leave Colombia, my native country, at the age of thirteen to come to the land of opportunity. Since then, I learned the English language over a span of 6 months, became a first-generation graduate from the University of Houston, go Coogs! Was able to pursue my calling as a soccer coach which gave me the ability to influence the next generation through sports and started a business alongside my wife where we get mentorship from the greatest entrepreneurs! It hasn’t been easy, but I want to highlight the importance of looking forward. I have learned that in order to overcome obstacles, whether in business or in life, one must learn to process issues quickly and move forward with a solution. God has given us many talents and has many gifts in store for us but sometimes we get distracted with thoughts of not being ready, or simply straying from the paths intended for us. It is then that we go through obstacles that we must overcome in order to unravel the virtuosity that God has placed within us. Today I am a proud US citizen continuing to build my coaching brand, Guarin Soccer, and recently with my wife, have embarked on a mission of helping families become financially literate and independent in order to protect and achieve their goals and dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Visit NASA Space Center, eat some Texas BBQ, Visit The Museum of Fine Arts and Houston Museum of Science during the day. Enjoy the night-life music scene and attend a sporting event depending on the season. In my opinion the best thing to do is to jump in a car and explore the city, find a place to eat along the way, and improvise the journey! That way the person that is visiting is exploring one hundred percent of the time, and in turn I get to discover places and things about my city all week long.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I thank God for everything that I have accomplished to this day. Next, a big shoutout to my wife @florenciaxguarin for all the support and love that I receive daily, she is my biggest blessing. I’m also very thankful for my mom and big sister, because of their example of hard work and perseverance I have obtained many life skills that are and forever will be useful. My family has always been a major contributor to all my decisions, and I am grateful for the powerful men and women that have supported and encouraged me throughout my journey. Shoutout to the entire Juventus Academy Houston staff and the parents that continue to trust me with the responsibility of teaching their children the game of soccer. To my mentors at PHP Agency, Inc., Rodolfo Vargas, Omar & Kimberly Hernandez, Sheila & Karina Hernandez, to team M.W.A, team Prestige and the entire team of WTP.
