We had the good fortune of connecting with Jodie Bergquist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jodie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are part of life, especially if you want to achieve your goals. Fear is a factor, however it is how you react/interact with it. If you focus on having all the details planned out, you miss out on opportunities and how many times does planning go according to plan. The biggest risk in life is not taking any risk at all. I have taken many risks. I am know to leap out in my faith. I tend to leap during times when most people pull back. As a faith-based woman, I tend to focus on the good things ahead of me, moving forward, fulfilling my purpose in this life. Fear and doubt will stop you in your tracks. What’s the worse thing that could happen, I fall or fail? But what if I soar higher than ever before.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a business owner in Old Katy. We provide mental health, life coaching, and consulting services in Texas and Tennessee. We specialize in various mood disorders, trauma, loss, grief and addictions. We walk alongside clients to bring a wholeness to self through individual counseling, family and relationship counseling, life coaching, and consulting.
Our goal is to help others rise above their past and find hope in tomorrow. Each client is approached with compassion and acceptance. Together, we will work with our clients to heal the past, rebuild trust, restore hope, and create new meaning to life.
I have a Doctor of Professional Counseling degree and dedicated many years of study and practice to integrate a holistic approach to the mental health field.
I am where I am today due to discipline and the hard work required to build a private practice and maintain that practice even during a world pandemic. We pride ourselves as being set apart from others primarily because we are Veteran Own and know what it is like to walk in the shoes of our clients. Our compassion and ability to go over and beyond to support and assist others through life’s difficulties surpasses many. Our holistic approach allows clients to gain insight into a mind, body, spirit connection.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever friends and family visit, we often have a very similar itinerary. We usually take a trip to Galveston. We visit the seawall and allow them to dip their feet in the water and get sand between their toes. We take a walk through Murdochs on the seawall and then head to the strand. We often plan a late lunch at Fisherman’s Warf or early dinner at Mama Teresa’s Flying Pizza and then take a dolphin tour with Baywatch Dolphin Tours. Afterwards, we head over to La King’s Confectionery for ice cream or sweet treats to take home. before leaving the strand we may hit a few shopping spots or head back down the seawall in hopes to catch the sunset. Depending on who our guest may be, we may grab a quick lunch and head to Kemah for dinner and rides before making our drive back to Katy. Everyone visiting usually also wants to make a famous Whataburger and Buc-ee’s stop. The following days we head downtown to Hermann Park and depending on the Texas heat, we visit the Houston Zoo or make a cooler stop inside of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Antique and Record shopping is also a must for us local katy peeps. We often take our guest over to Old Katy and visit the antique shops on 2nd street. We grab lunch or dinner at Lupe’s or Rudy’s BBQ and often treat our guest sometime through the week to Taste of Texas. If visiting during baseball season, a must is seeing our Astros play and during the Christmas season we grab tickets to the Houston Ballet-Nutcracker and Christmas Carol at the Alley theater. Houston has so many exciting things to do. The culture alone is more than most our guest have usually ever experienced.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Many people have helped me get to where I am life. They have walked alongside me through my many obstacles. I am humbled by the love and support that I have received from each of them. I am forever grateful to my husband and children. Their love and encouragement to keep going has held me together, especially at times when I wanted to walk away from it all. I am grateful to all the professors along the way, specifically those at Houston Graduate School of Theology for their wisdom and leadership in my life. Finally, I must glorify the Lord for his constant grace, forgiveness, and love.
