We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Tuftee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan, what matters most to you?
I prioritize honesty, believing that transparency is the foundation of all meaningful relationships. Being dependable is crucial to me because I value being someone others can always count on. I also believe in hard work, understanding that consistent effort and perseverance are the true paths to achieving my goals.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is constantly evolving, and that’s what sets me apart. I’m particularly proud and excited about the shift my work has taken over the past year—it’s been a period of significant growth for me. I’ve gotten to where I am today by accepting help, working hard, and taking chances whenever they came my way. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned that networking with others in my field is just as crucial as the hours I spend in the studio. My story is about embracing change, seizing opportunities, and building connections that fuel creativity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure they experienced the best of Houston! We’d kick off our week with a delicious lunch at Nippon, where the sushi is as fresh as it gets. Then, we’d dive into the city’s vibrant art scene by visiting the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the Menil Collection—both are must-sees for any art lover. As the sun sets, we’d head over to Rudyard’s for one of the best burgers in town and, if we’re lucky, catch some live music in the cozy atmosphere.

The rest of the week would be packed with iconic Houston experiences. We’d explore the Houston Zoo, where the lush grounds and diverse animal exhibits make it a favorite for all ages. A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, would be next, offering a world-class collection that spans centuries and cultures. And, of course, no trip to Houston is complete without a day at The Galleria for some shopping, people-watching, and maybe even a spin around the ice rink.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out to my incredible wife for always supporting my passions and being the rock I can count on. She’s my constant source of strength and the reason I keep going, no matter how challenging the journey gets.
