We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua York and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I remember working different jobs thinking that even if I master this particular skill, I want to do more than this next year and beyond, after happening at several jobs, I realized that I want to make a living doing something that I could say is 100% mine, I make the rules, set the hours and train the new employees.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Before my podcast, I would write to express myself, through transitioning out of military life reconnecting to writing was the most refreshing way for a creative fire to be lit within me. With all of the misfortunes happening in the world, finding a creative outlet was the only thing keeping me sane. I have pulled back from my podcast to finish my book which has poems and short stories that I have kept from my childhood and throughout my life… needless to say it was not as easy as I thought it would be, releasing them will be worth the wait but very difficult as an artistic creative.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a country man with the spontaneity of any city king! I would rent out a house house in Texas City and rent out a boat for the weekend (which I have done with friends, well worth it) fishing and cruising on the boat during the day and have a few seafood boils & barbecues by the pool at night, campfires, game night etc etc (no technology, just vibes) Texas City has lots of cool restaurants and lounges with live bands that would really show the southern nightlife in the best way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Spirit. On my podcast I have added “spy” to my name which stands for “spirit possesses you”, to remind myself that I am never alone. I had no idea how to turn a podcast into a business but recording literally everyday even when I was not in the best spirits or write in my journal, or meditating in a park, I could connect to spirit to uplift myself. All credit goes to my higher self which is always connected to spirit.
