We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juan, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Knowing what you stand for means you’ll never take a step back. It will always be forward.

My career has taken me all over the country. It has also led to to meet incredible people. Ive had to “start over” many times. However it has never felt like starting over. From the beginning of my career I committed myself to the idea that I won’t compromise my integrity. That principle has singlehandedly protected me from any form of critique. I can wind up starting over again and it won’t feel like a step backward because I know I didn’t comprised my integrity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I currently am involved in many different ventures. I own a media production company that helps manage peoples brands. We deal in photo and video as well as content creation. Im also a singer songwriter, musician. My creative endeavors cover a wide range.

A lot of my success has been a product of accidental preparation and luck. I found a lot of. my passions early so I became obsessive. I would often times ignore the tasks and responsibilities that were in front of me in order to continue my passions. In my teens it was dancing and circus arts. In my 20’s it was music and photography. My obsession is what accidentally prepared me and luck just moved the pieces into place. I can’t think of any situation in my life that has contributed to my success that did not present itself without warning. It has never been something that I was working towards for years. I just got lucky. Lucky that the opportunity presented itself and lucky that my obsession had accidentally prepared me to be successful in that moment.

That being said I can’t say that it was “easy”. When I look back on my career it doesn’t seem easy. However it doesn’t seem hard. Most of what I’ve had to overcome either didn’t register itself as a hardship in the moment, or felt like such a big challenge that I hyper fixated on it. All of my ventures have been fun. Sure, there has definitely been parts that were annoying or non enjoyable. But overall, everything I’ve done I would do again in a heartbeat.

Even when having fun you tend to learn a lot along the way. Definitely in the art space we are constantly learning, but most of the lessons I’ve had to internalize are outside the realm of art and more in the business world. Things that I didn’t value much in my teens are having their renaissance in my life. Basic things. Thing like a good handshake, Sincerity in conversation, arriving 20 minutes early.

If you had to know anything about me is that I want to bring things to like that people can enjoy. My company is an extension of that. Our brand dedicates itself to honoring our identity and one day giving. back to that community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Assuming you’re staying on the east side. First things first. On Monday you’ve gotta go to champ burger for lunch. Start your week off right.

follow it up with your typical sightseeing. Head to discovery green, check out a museum. End the night at nancys hustle for dinner!

Tuesday and Wednesday you can have some freedom with. Head to different parts of town and take them in. Bel air, Chinatown, the heights, up town.

If you’ve gotta go to the mall, do it on these days. You’ll find better parking and less people.

Once Thursday hits though you’ve gotta go see some art. Thursday is MFAH day. The Houston museum of fine arts is a wonderful museum filled with tons of phenomenal art. That entire section of the museum district is wonderful. The CAM, the holocaust museum. So many to choose from. Take the opportunity while you’re around there and have some lunch or dinner in rice village. Top off your night with drinks at grand prize bar. Now we’re starting to see the local watering holes and the people of the city finally come out.

Friday, you’re in downtown again. Whatever you do you’ve gotta stop at bad news bar to take in some amazing classic cocktails.

Between the restaurants and the bars one week is not enough but my philosophy is find yourself a non descriptor place and watch the personality of the neighborhood come to life and who knows…maybe you’ll catch me with a camera trying to capture it all.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father. My father sacrificed so much of who he was and his aspirations to get to where he is today. From my early childhood all I have ever received from my father was support. “I believe in you” were words I heard constantly. His support helped me feel unashamed to pursue my passions, and more importantly, fail at my passions. A lot of my integrity is inherited from my father and his struggle. His presence in my life has been an integral ingredient in my refusal to give up.
