We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Pham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Choosing a creative career allows me to constantly challenge myself to grow and evolve as an individual. The freedom to experiment, innovate, and push boundaries keeps me engaged and excited about my work every day. Plus, being able to connect with a community of like-minded individuals who appreciate and support each other’s creativity is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just a job; it’s a passion that fuels my soul.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my eclectic style. My art reflects my personality, which is 50% girly-girl and 50% tomboy with an edgy twist. You could describe my style as chic streetwear. I take trends and put my own spin on them to make them uniquely mine. When working with different brands, their items might not perfectly align with my style, but I always find a way to make them fit my personality. I believe that’s what makes me creative.

It’s truly fulfilling to witness others adopting my style and recreating my outfits in videos or photos because they genuinely love them. I know not everyone finds putting together outfits easy, so being able to inspire or even create looks for them brings me a lot of joy.

Professionally, I got to where I am today by consistently posting my outfits on Instagram and embracing my authentic self. Brands started noticing, and I began with gifted collaborations, which eventually turned into paid partnerships. I also ventured into UGC content creation, providing content for companies to use.

Balancing work, social life, and content creation has been a challenge. Finding the energy to do a full glam and take multiple outfit photos after a long day of work was tough. Plus, being family-oriented, it was hard to miss out on family time because content creation often takes up entire days. I overcame these challenges by prioritizing and organizing my content creation days more efficiently. I scheduled shoots by due dates, hair styles, and locations, taking bulk photos at once. When I felt exhausted or uninspired, logging on to social media reading all the sweet and supportive comments, seeing my photos posted on brand sites, being reposted on Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok helps keep me going.

Through this journey, I’ve learned that content creation involves a lot of business and management work. Prior to branching into my creative career, I worked at the largest consulting company in the world, where I harnessed skills in business management and technology, which has been invaluable in managing brand deals, researching and predicting trends, creating business plans and invoices, and building rapport with brands.

I want the world to know that I’m just a regular girl who started expressing her love for fashion on social media for fun. With dedication and hard work, I’ve been able to surpass my income from my Fortune 500 job with content creation. If I can do it, anyone can, as long as they have passion and dedication.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d start by taking my best friend on shopping adventures in the Montrose area, where the styles and people are unique and vibrant without breaking the bank. Then, we’d indulge at an authentic Asian restaurant in Houston’s huge Chinatown district to explore my culture’s favorite foods and drinks at restaurants such as Tan Tan or Kim Son. We’d then dive into the diverse array of ethnic cuisines that Houston has to offer. Coffee runs at shops such as La La Land or Coffee Fellows.

For activities, our itinerary would include visits to Houston’s many museums to appreciate fine and contemporary art, catching concerts or shows, exploring flea markets or farmers’ markets, enjoying a good karaoke night and even having a relaxing picnic, with my fur baby, at the Buffalo Bayou Park. With endless options available, my friend would experience the dynamic and diverse energy of Houston firsthand.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible parents, who have been the pillars of support throughout my journey. My father’s story of resilience as an immigrant coming to the U.S. during the Vietnam War with nothing but determination, has been a source of inspiration for me. Despite starting with nothing, he pursued his passion for art with unwavering dedication, eventually becoming a renowned artist in his industry. His creativity and perseverance have instilled in me the courage to pursue my own passions fearlessly.

Equally influential is my mother, whose innate sense of style and love for fashion have shaped my own aesthetic preferences. From as far back as I can remember, she has been a trendsetter, always expressing herself through her unique fashion choices. Sharing moments of shopping and styling with her not only brought us closer, but also ignited my own passion for fashion and self-expression.

Their love, guidance, and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the person I am today. I am eternally grateful for their presence in my life and the invaluable lessons they have taught me.
