Meet Julie Thibault-Dury | Closiist.com & Adalaia owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Thibault-Dury and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I never lost sight of that goal. All my life choices were driven by it. My end goal is to fulfill a dream I’ve had for a while and I would rather not say more about it now. But what I can tell you is how I want to get there. I want to contribute to changing our world by helping people rediscover the value of local goods, bringing others to favor making their products in the US and continuing to optimize our methods to make our deliveries even more eco-friendly. Oddly enough, I don’t picture myself ending my career or my business later in life. I really enjoy working and it’s part of me. It’s a passion.

What should our readers know about your business?
What is Closiist? Closiist is an e-shop with a philosophy of promoting the local and sustainability. We curate our products carefully, looking into the history and the technologies of their producers to make sure they are in harmony with our ethical values. Sustainable – Thoughtful – Non-toxic – Low waste

Our Mission: Promote a sustainable way to shop online! Online shopping involves shipping, which means pollution. Not the best way to promote sustainable shopping, right? Well indeed, but we believe awareness is the first step towards a better future.
From the beginning, we wanted to work with the environment in mind. We believe that caring for our planet is what everyone should do for a better future for our kids. That’s the reason why we decided to promote local and sustainability. But as we were moving forward with Closiist we had to find a way to ship eco-friendly. Being “eco-friendly” when we talk about the shipment is a goal hard to reach. In fact, 10% of the global CO2 emissions are from transport and logistic.

We did some research and finally found a solution that fits us and who is America’s first 100% carbon neutral shipping carrier. Its name, Sendle.

We don’t pretend that we can change the world in a few months, but we believe that every action for the environment whatever it is, contributes to this better future. That’s why we give 1% of each order to a non-profit via our Donation Program, “You Shop, We give”.
You may see on our Instagram that we don’t only post about our product but also about ecological awareness and more precisely about ocean protection. The reason is simple; we have a particular passion for the oceans and their conservation.
Each product listed on Closiist has been carefully curated by our team. They are not only beautiful but are Eco-Friendly, Organic, Made from Recycled Materials, Handmade, NON-GMO, or produced in Small Batches.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start by taking them on the ferry to go to Astoria, walk to Chateau le Woof to sip on a delicious latte made by the world champion of latte art (no joke). I would then take them for a walk in Socrates Park to discover the nice sculptures and the great view of the Manhattan skyline. Then we would go to the Noguchi museum to see some contemporary art. On our way back in the evening, I would bring them back to Chateau le Woof to get some wine and cheese while listening to their live band!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say my spouse, Benjamin. As he says, he is my “number one fan” and my biggest support. My son Adam too. He’s 10 years old. We share a lot about this business journey. The SHE FOR SHE women’s group was also a great support. I also love Napoleon Hill’s books and I always carry on around.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my friends who are always encouraging me and supporting me no matter what.
