We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Gambino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
There have been plenty of days where I have wanted to give up and was at a low point in my life to give up. The day God wrote “Going Under” was the day I was reminded any battle I am facing He has already won it.. Going Under is a rejuvenating song that gives me reassurance to continue down this journey. Serving a greater purpose to bring people closer to Him.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After serving in Active duty, I was a reservist and was faced with the decision to re-enlist or to leave the Navy, I was very passionate about my music and believed that I would go somewhere with it. I was working full-time as a General Manager during my reservist time, but knew if I stayed in my full-time role and faced with re-enlistment, I would be unhappy. A record label out of Oklahoma helped me make my decision when they called with a record deal to sign, several months after submitting the original, “Your Love Runs Deep” from the album “Shadows” by Shattered Silence (released Feb 4th, 2014). I left the Navy to pursue my career in music, January of 2013. And in May of 2013, I went from full-time to part-time, and then eventually that summer I quit my job to pursue music full-time. In 2017, I left Shattered Silence as the lead vocalist/front man and embarked on a journey as a soloist. Since then, I have released the most recent project “Journey Within My Soul” worldwide.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not sure what we would do locally since we live 15 minutes apart, but my best friend recently joined me on my 2-week leg for the “Anchored” tour. We had a blast. I was able to share my favorite authentic coffee shops with him, best eats in Little Rock, AR (Three Fold) the best dumplings and noodles around! And truly share my passion for touring. Touring does take you on an adventure to new sights, friends and events. He got to witness a family come to a drive-in – safe distancing event. But as folks were leaving the event, they had the opportunity to donate to my travels and ministry. The daughter did not want to leave without giving something. She dug and dug in the seats and crevices of their car and found loose change – 19 cents. What a selfless act of love, during these hard times were are all in. I was moved by their generosity and my best friend was able to be there to witness such love I receive on tour.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My bride, Ashley Gambino, and I have been married for 7 years and have been best friends for 12. Ashley is selfless, compassionate and my biggest encourager. She encouraged me to quit my job and pursue my passion of music and to take that leap of faith. Without her, I do not think I would be where I am today preparing to release my next single. My Parents, Billy & Kathy Gambino, have always encouraged me to chase my dreams. They bought me my first guitar and encouraged me to perform and write.
