We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Foote and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karen, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I have done as a parent is committing to living as an authentic role model and engaging in a continuous, open dialogue where we navigate life’s complexities as equals. Rather than just hoping they observe the right behaviors, we have frequent, deep discussions that prioritize emotional awareness and integrity as the standard. By being an emotionally responsive parent and honoring their perspectives in these conversations, I am providing them with a living blueprint for how to be emotionally aware and responsive husbands. They are learning how to hold space for a partner’s feelings because their own are validated through our mutual respect and the equality of our connection.

Furthermore, by staying true to my own values and standing up for what is right in my daily life, I am showing them that authenticity is a deliberate practice. Redefining masculinity through our shared reflections allows them to see that true leadership means choosing responsiveness over reactivity and having the courage to maintain one’s principles even when it is difficult. Ultimately, these shared experiences ensure they grow into individuals who lead with empathy and possess the unwavering integrity to always do what is right.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am me, always has been. People either loves me or I am too much for them. I have always lived with it. It was easy in some aspects but so difficult in others. In my private life, I get to choose who gets invited into my life. I recently decided to venture into the corporate world. After 52 years, I wanted to work in a space where I thought me being me was enough. Unfortunately, that world was not ready for someone like me. It was insistent that I fit into the corporate structure. My personal goal is to make sure that the people who comes in contact with me feel seen and validated. Giving them the confidence to find their voice and the courage to live their favourite lives. The version of you that brings you joy, fun and peace. I have learnt that acceptance is the biggest piece of this puzzle called life. Accepting that we always have a choice. Accepting we only have control over ourselves. Accepting not everyone thinks like us. The world will always want you to fit into a version that they understand, but that’s for their own convenience and comfort. I crave honesty and kindness. This is what I want the world to know about my brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie. My idea of fun would be to bring my friends to the restaurants I love where I also know the owners. I love spending time enjoying great food and learning about how people make their dreams come true. Depending on the season, One of my most favourite places to visit is the sunflower farm in Ballarat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes out to my children whom the dedication in my book was addressed to; Julian and Noah – Who demand the best of me and inspire me to be shamelessly authentic. Also to my Publisher from Write Editions who believed in me and helped me share my story.
