We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my first design business over 17 years ago when I found a gap in the design market that I felt needed filled. I had that design business up until the end of 2023. This year I have just rebranded and relaunched my design business to fit who I am today. Starting any business in my opinion, is all about finding a need in the world that you feel strongly about and creating a solution for others who may have the same need.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Interior Design is so much more than a career to me, it is my passion. I have always used my ability to listen to clients, needs and wants as well as their budgets to create not only beautiful designs, but a feeling of home and a point of pride for our clients. I work one on one with my clients to take out the fear and guesswork when it comes to designing and styling a home. We have fun and the result of that is shown in our finished spaces. We often work side by side so the client has a say in every aspect of the design from start to finish. We are creating reflections of you and your family which makes every space unnique and inviting.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is so tough because there is so much to see and do here that you can’t go wrong!
Day 1: Morning to Afternoon in League City
Breakfast would definately be Red Oak Cafe. Love their food and the atmoshere is the perfect start to the day
After breakfast I would grab a coffee from Black Rock Coffee and head to Main Street in the Historic portion of League City.
The park there is beautiful for photos and has great areas to sit and talk as you take in the scenery. This is the area with cute boutiques and shops like The Salted Hippe Boutique to squeeze in a little shopping.
Lunch would have to be Main Street bistro. I love everything on their menu, you can’t go wrong.
Day 2
A day trip to Galveston to the Galvez spa and then enjoy the seawall
Day 3
Catch a soccer game, Astros Game, Rockets or Texans depending on the season
Day 4
Rooftop Cinema has always been on my must do list as well and a great way to entertain your guest.
Day 5 would be the zoo or any of the museums!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been blessed to be surrounded with amazing family, friends, mentors and clients who have helped me through this rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship. Without their support and encouragment I would not be where I am today. I am forever grateful for each and everyone of them.
