We had the good fortune of connecting with Karoll Guerrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karoll, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a mom of two and someone with a bachelor’s degree in arts, my journey into photography felt like a natural extension of both my personal and professional life. Becoming a mother gave me a deeper appreciation for how quickly moments with our children pass by. I wanted to freeze those fleeting moments not just for my own family, but for others as well. This desire to preserve memories is at the heart of why I started my photography business.
My background in arts gave me the technical and creative foundation I needed. I had always been drawn to visual storytelling, and photography allowed me to merge that passion with my love for working with families and children. I found a sense of purpose in helping people capture life’s milestones, whether it’s the joy of a newborn’s first days, a one-year-old’s cake smash, or the curiosity of a baby during a sitter session.
Starting my own business also gave me the freedom to create a work-life balance that fits my family’s needs. It’s deeply fulfilling to pursue a career that allows me to be creative, work with others, and most importantly, be present for my children.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey to where I am today was far from easy. I faced numerous challenges along the way, from balancing the demands of being a mom to the complexities of running a business.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of perseverance and staying true to your vision. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and it takes continuous effort and dedication to achieve your goals. Investing in my education through workshops with well-known photographers in the industry was a crucial part of my journey, allowing me to refine my craft and build the confidence I needed to succeed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has so much to offer, from its diverse culinary scene to its rich cultural heritage and vibrant neighborhoods. Here are some of my highlights:
One of my favorite ways to spend an evening in Houston is to start at Discovery Green park, where you can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and often catch live music or art installations. After a relaxing time at the park, head over to the Alley Theatre for an incredible show—whether it’s a classic play or a contemporary production, the performances are always top-notch. To round off the night, dine at Xochi, where you’ll experience innovative Oaxacan cuisine that’s as delicious as it is unique.
Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The area is also home to beautiful parks and the Houston Zoo in Hermann Park.
Space Center: No trip to Houston is complete without a visit to NASA’s Space Center, where they can learn about space exploration and even see real spacecraft.
Montrose: Known for its artsy, eclectic atmosphere. Dinner at Uchi, a contemporary Japanese restaurant, and explore the neighborhood’s nightlife.
Visit The Pit Room for some authentic Texas BBQ.
Kemah Boardwalk, with its charming shops, amusement rides, and waterfront views.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to several incredible people who have played a crucial role in my journey. First, my husband, whose unwavering emotional and financial support has been a cornerstone of my success. His belief in me has given me the confidence to pursue my passion. I also want to recognize my family and my kids, who have been my source of inspiration and motivation every day. Lastly, a huge thank you to my wonderful clients, whose trust and loyalty allow me to do what I love. Their support has been essential to my growth and success.
