We had the good fortune of connecting with Karter K and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karter, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a content creator, I felt that there weren’t enough opportunities for me to create freely in the city of Houston. The thought process that developed Rich Legacy Studios was a plan to bring together a team of creatives that could deliver exceptional, high- end content in one of the fastest growing cities. I wanted my city to experience digital content in a way it had never experienced it, so I worked to create a lane that I didn’t feel existed prior. In other words, I wanted to create a product that others could and would aspire to imitate.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Speed and quality set me apart from others in this industry. Most people can’t provide both, so I pride myself in providing my clients with both! I’m most proud of the long lasting relationships I’ve been able to make with some of industry’s biggest names. I’m proud to be a reputable reference in the film industry for so many. I’m also proud of the team of creators at Rich Legacy Studios who are working day-in and day-out with me through it all. My team is a critical part of my business and I’m grateful for them. Consistency and networking have been key factors in my success as an entrepreneur. Producing consistent quality content and building those relationships has allowed my name and work to speak for itself. Was it easy? Of course not. I started from scratch, having to convince people of what I already knew I could do.
One of my biggest lessons learned and one I encourage everyone to take note of is that making mistakes is apart of the journey. Some of the best content has been created from what seemed like a mistake. I have learned that more is learned from the mistakes than many of the things I have perfected. There is always something more for me to learn and I will never stop moving forward.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Taste Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, so we would stop there first for lunch or a late dinner. On Tuesday, we would party with Selective Group at Heart for R&B Tuesday. Later in the week I would take the gang to PlaygroundHTX for some nostalgic fun. I couldn’t let them leave the city without enjoying some of the skyline views, so I would take them to PostHTX for a rooftop lunch on Sunday.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to someone who served as my mentor throughout this journey, Mr. Scott Hebert. Scott is a director, producer, traveling photographer, and film legend. Scott poured into me as I was trying to grow in film and entertainment. His guidance and mentorship made me realize that I was only as good as the best content creator in the game, if I was BETTER. In the short amount of time Scott mentored me, he taught me the importance of constantly growing and improving within my craft. He taught me that I should always strive to be better, to continue to grow both personally and especially professionally. He taught me to never settle for anything less than the best, within my craft and beyond.
