We had the good fortune of connecting with Kasey Yadav and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kasey, tell us about yourself and the idea behind starting your business.
Since I was young, my dream was to be a pastry chef. After high school, I moved to Austin and attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and graduated with a degree in patisserie and baking, but I struggled to find a job that let me live the life I had always imagined. I wanted my work to feel purposeful and I wanted to feel like I had a positive impact on people’s lives, but the reality was that I was deeply unhappy in the kitchen.

In 2013, my older sister, Amber, started pet sitting for friends and members of her church, and soon, just through word-of-mouth recommendations, she became very successful. At some time in 2019, she found herself so overbooked that she was having to turn down client requests, so she asked me if I could help her by taking over a few jobs. I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to be associated with her good reputation and to be introduced to her clients. She and I have always been animal lovers our whole lives, and have had many pets, so stepping in and helping her was a no-brainer. She showed me how to conduct introduction meetings and how to present myself confidently in a professional way to new clients. At the time, I was living the dream as a “stay-at-home cat-mom” and had not had a job in seven years, so I had to learn how to overcome my shyness and introduce myself to strangers, how to sell myself without having a panic attack, and how to show people that I am someone they can trust with their precious pet and a key to their house within an hour-long meeting! Amber held my hand through all of it and helped subdue my fears and insecurities.

After a year and a half of pet sitting as a favor for my sister and a few friends and neighbors, I got a job at a pet boarding facility. I thought it was my dream job, and I imagined myself working there for a very long time. However, soon I realized that place did not share my values at all. I saw many instances where the animals were not getting the care and attention they really needed. One dog in particular that broke my heart was a little dachshund named Jax who was petrified of being left in a kennel around loud dogs and strange people. Some days, he was too terrified to even come out of his kennel to go outside and potty. I had to give him two anxiety pills every day, and it still didn’t help him relax. I will never forget him, and I credit my experience with him as the driving force behind starting Pluto Pet Sitting. I quit after 3 months at the boarding facility and dedicating myself entirely to pet-sitting full time.

My mission now is to reach pet parents and show them there is a better alternative to boarding their beloved babies. An alternative where their pet is able to stay happy and healthy in the comfort of their own home, travel trauma for both owner and pet is eliminated, diets and routines are uninterrupted, and pet’s exposure to illness is minimized. As a pet mom myself, I know that saying goodbye to your pet for a few days or even a few hours can be hard, and no one LIKES leaving their best friend alone in a boarding facility. I strive to create a positive and calm environment for the pets, and love them like they are my own! I am committed to delivering exceptional and loving one-on-one care, flexible and affordable service, and being someone my clients can fully trust and depend on. I believe this is truly my life’s calling!

What is the most important factor behind your success?
The simplest answer to this question is my freedom to present my most authentic self to my clients and my ability to conduct my business in harmony with my core values and personal beliefs: ACCOUNTABILITY, INTEGRITY, SERVICE, RESPECT, AND COMPASSION. By nurturing strong personal relationships with clients, they can sense my genuine love for their pets, my passion for giving them the very best care, and my dedication to them and their furry family members. I think these attributes make pet parents feel comfortable and confident in my ability and services, which is key!
