We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For as long as I can remember, I have loved taking photos! For my 16th birthday, I received my first dSLR camera, and my love for capturing life around me through the lens was amplified! My photography journey began mostly as capturing nature and landscapes, but through the years, I began taking photos of friends and family too. What started as a hobby, slowly transformed to become more of a business. I took a couple years off from photography after moving to the Houston area (I will always be a Kansas girl at heart!), but missed being able to express my creative side! That’s when I made the decision to really turn my hobby into a business! I still just do photography part-time right now, but it has truly brought so much joy to my life, especially in these grueling days of COVID (I am a nurse full-time). It is such an honor to capture the most special moments in the lives of friends and strangers alike!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Developing my photography brand has been years in the making, as I have learned and grown in my craft. I am completely self-taught, which means sometimes learning things the more challenging way, but it can also be so rewarding! I love providing my clients with images that truly capture the essence of their family & loved ones and work very hard to return the edited images within days of the session!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many amazing opportunities and fun ways to spend time here in the Houston area! One of the first places I ever visited here, and the place I always take friends who come to visit me now, is The Woodlands Waterway. There is nothing better than catching some live music from the Cynthia Woods Pavilion while taking a stroll along the water’s edge on a warm spring or summer night! Some other Houston area staples for me when friends & family come to visit include a trip to Buc-ee’s and Torchy’s Tacos!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for my amazing husband and small group friends who have been my biggest cheerleaders as I have re-launched my photography ventures here in the Houston area.
