We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylee Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylee, what role has risk played in your life or career?
What do I think about risk taking? Honestly, I am one of those people who used to HATE taking risks. I used to love the comfortability of not taking risks and staying with what I know and having a consistent lifestyle. Well, that all changed almost a year ago. On January 1st, 2022, I took a risk of quitting my full time job as a behavioral therapist to pursue my then part time gig as a photographer and turn it into full time. It was absolutely the best risk I have ever taken and now I take all the risks. It sounds kind of cliche, but you only live once; so, I say, take the risk and live to your fullest potential why you can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a lifestyle photographer for the Greater Houston area. What sets me apart from others is I am 100% self taught. I am most excited that my business is just gradually growing every single day. You know the saying, “practice makes perfect?”, obviously my work isn’t perfect but I got where I am today professionally by almost shooting and editing daily. Running a successful photography business is not easy by any means, it is actually extremely challenging at times; I don’t ever really “clock out” so my brain is constantly thinking about new ideas, if I responded to all my messages, if I created a confirmation link for my new clients, etc. To overcome these challenges, after a certain time of day, I just turn my phone on silent and mentally check out for a bit, so I don’t get too overwhelmed. One lesson I have learned during this journey of mine is that my time is valuable and not to sell my self so short.

The most important part of my “brand” or my story is that I, honestly, had no idea what I was going to do with my life (career wise). Growing up, everyone put in my head that there are only two options once you graduate high school, go to college or work; well, truth be told, I did both and absolutely HATED it. I dropped out of community college multiple times and I worked different jobs here and there. Nothing and I mean nothing set a fire in my soul, I felt so incredibly lost until I found photography. Once I pursued photography full time, I finally felt like me again; that I am doing exactly what God intended me to do. With photography, I get to share joy and kindness with others like I want to, I get to be creative, I get to meet all kinds of new people and see all kinds of new places. It’s the best, no doubt. Long story short, my brand KCL photography has impacted me in ways people don’t even know and I will always push anyone and everyone to chase after their dream just like I did because it is a definite game changer.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, we would probably hang out at some sort of nature or dog park because we both love outdoors and our dogs. I would definitely take her to the zoo and to an Astros game (my husband and I love going to baseball games). We would probably eat at the aquarium or Kim Son. We might catch a concert if anyone is playing at the Toyota Center or maybe go to Petes piano bar, I don’t drink but that place is so fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give credit to my family for encouraging me day in and day out with telling me how proud they are of me, supporting me when running a business gets tough and understanding that being a full time business owner takes up a lot of my time. I want to specifically give some recognition to my husband and my little sister, they both pushed me to pursue photography full time because they both knew the potential I had. My sister and my husband, both still basically tell me, “the sky is the limit” with my business and I am so grateful to have those two pushing me everyday to be the best I can be.
