We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Lazard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It was originally not in my plans to pursue a creative career. I started painting as an escape from everyday life and eventually it just blossomed into something more. Once I saw that people were really taking a liking to my work, it made me want to keep going. So I guess, in a way, I have all of my supporters to thank for that. I do not regret my decision to take on art as a full time hobby and job.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I try not to compare myself to other creatives. I simply just do whatever the heck I want in the moment and I think that’s what makes me different. Most people try to stick to one thing, I don’t; you can say I’m all over the place but I like it that way. I literally have dreams of doing EVERYTHING and I think that’s what keeps me excited. As far as where I am today, I’m still growing, still expanding my vision day by day. With a vision as big as mine it will never be easy. What does that even mean? I overcome challenges daily just by promising myself that I’m never going backwards. I’ve been lower than dirt, I’ve seen the darkness; I can’t go back to that, The number one lesson I’ve learned? Persevere, persevere, persevere!! I want the world to know that it is possible to do the things you enjoy and turn them into something bigger. We dream for a reason. We have gifts for a reason, USE THEM and create the world you wish to live in. That’s my brands motto. Life is more than just a rat race.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Graffiti Walls Downtown! I LOVE that place. As well as any place that is peaceful to me, like the beach, a park, or any place with a large body of water lol. I’m not too picky when it comes to food but there is this Neosoul restaurant called Viola & Agnes and ohh myyy goodness!! I wanna take everyone there lol. The chicken waffles are to die for. But for the most part, I’m a homebody haha. I enjoy to hang with people who enjoy positive vibes, good music, and avoid drama. No no no drama welcome in my world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to Brittney Thomas; a special friend of mine who sparked the idea of me attending my first art show. She believed in my abilities before I did honestly. Teahne Tapscott (DJ Chill T) on keeping me encouraged along the way and always being supportive. My sister Monique for literally having a house full of my work lol. As well as my friends Mercedes, Angie, and anyone who showed support in any shape way or form. You guys are my support system. But most importantly I wanna give a shout out to myself for being resilient and pushing through the curve balls life has thrown at me lately.
