We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendahl Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendahl, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When it comes to taking risks, I believe that it is the only way to true success and making dreams/goals a reality. If you do not take the chance to improve or to grow your skill or business, how do you expect to achieve your goal? You have to take risks and make decisions that at the end of the day, will make or break your business. If it doesn’t work out, you learn from your mistakes and let that be the motivation that drives you to be better. For me, I chose to take a risk and invest In proper training for eyelash extensions. Once I made the decision in my mind that this is what I wanted to do, I did my research and made it happen. I spent a few thousand on training and supplies in hope that I would be successful. It was a risk I took, and left in the hands of God. I then took a chance with getting my own suite. I knew that I had enough clientele to make my rent, but I would second guess myself constantly. The right opportunity presented itself, and with knowing God was with me and that he would not give me anything I couldn’t handle, I risked it. It was the best decision I could have made for my business and I am truly grateful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My lash style is very classy and elegant. From an everyday look to going out, my sets fit any and every occasion. I am proud of the growth I have had within this short amount of time as far as clientele and my lash skills. Each day with each client I am constantly learning and improving. To get to where I am today, it took drive and dedication to really push myself and my abilities as a lash artist. You have to take the proper training and be willing to learn the basics before you can jump into bigger things. It wasn’t easy, but since I have such a passion for lash extensions, it made the process easier. My goal then, is my same goal now. To continue to improve as a lash tech and be able to give my clients that beautiful set they are wanting. Lessons I have learned through this journey so far, are to 1. Make sure you keep track of all of your business financials. I have been using a program so that I can separate business and personal purchases which will make it easier around tax time. And 2. Making sure to set boundaries for your business and do not let people take advantage of your kindness. Until you set them straight, they will continue.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a hard one. I was born and raised here in the heart of Houston,Tx. I have lived here my whole life except for the few years away while in school at Texas State University. With that being said, there are many places I would take my best friend. First stop would be for brunch. I would take her to either Harry’s in Midtown or to Phil & Derek’s Downtown. For lunch, I would take her to Lotus for some really good seafood or to Sticky’s Chicken, which has been a new favorite of mine, located in the Heights. Lastly for dinner, I would take her to get crawfish! It’s crawfish season so I have found a new favorite spot called The Boot. They have some of the best crawfish and boiled shrimp. You can find the most fun to me, by going to either Midtown or the heights to bar hop and to people watch. Also Discovery Green always has an event or show going on. Pack a little picnic basket and relax or even bike ride. There is so much to do Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to first thank my family and friends for supporting me throughout my journey. Without my family, friends and boyfriend I would not be where I am today. From daily encouragement, to being my training models, I am so thankful for all of them. I also want to thank MY lash lady, the woman who got me started and has been the only one to do my lashes. Amy with Ellelysian Beauty, did my volume certification course and is my mentor. She has taught me everything I know, and I am truly thankful for her. And Lastly, thank you to San Jacinto College for doing my eyelash extension licensure course. If any one is interested in getting their lash license, I highly recommend their course.
