Meet KeSwonda Kee” Burist | Owner of Xpressive Trendz”

We had the good fortune of connecting with KeSwonda “Kee” Burist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KeSwonda “Kee”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started my business 2 years ago, my thought process was what could I sell that fit me and the economy. I chose to start a children’s clothing boutique, because as I was looking at everyone selling adult clothes, but I hardly seen anyone selling children clothing besides the major brands like Justice. So, I started doing my research on how to start my own children’s boutique.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Certified Medical Assistant. I have been working in healthcare for about four years. I am currently employed by Texas ENT specialist, a specialist doctor office and I have been employed her a year in a half. It has not been easy being in the medical field. I have had my share of healthcare jobs as a certified medical assistant, but this current employer is my favorite due to the house hrs/ work schedule, I have grown overall as a individual, and my work ethic as changed majorly.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her EVERYWHERE. I go out a lot in the city so I would have our itinerary full of good food, music, and drinks. Monday we would go to Mr. X to a after hours happy hour that would start at like 7pm till 10pm because of my work schedule and traffic. Tuesday we would do taco Tuesday at Plush. Wednesday music bingo and wings Maks. Thursday a steak and lobster tails from The Address. Friday we would go to The Spot and D bar for Friday night fun, Saturdays we would brunch at Parma and go out later to Club Space. Sunday we do brunch again but at Drunken Corner and then we would go out to Spire night club.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank God for allowing me to be able to go hard behind my business. I have to thank my mother Jerlean, for always listening to me talk about business and being my biggest critic when it comes to my overall business. I have to thank my significant other Tyrone, for being such amazing support system and ear when it comes to my business. Thank you to my bestfriend, Rynesha Miller for being an inspiration on being my own boss and always supporting me. Thank you to Gee Gee the owner of G’zavea, she helped me get all my resources I needed to start my business the proper way. Thank you to my children TahLia, Azariah, and Baheera, this business is for them to have as future income, they model the clothes even in the boy section, and they are the faces to The Girl Vault and Juniors Department.
