We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Petitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
M-POWERED’s Beyond My Limitations Collection is Christian Apparel for men and women that was designed to empower, inspire, and serve as a testament that one can overcome and succeed despite their limitations through God. If we were honest, many of us would admit that we struggle with having negative thoughts about ourselves or feeling constrained by our limitations. Ideals such as “I am not capable of doing that.” “I could never become that.” “I don’t have the resources to do that.” To be transparent, I know what it’s like to have these battles. M-POWERED is more than simply a business name; it represents my journey.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Because I have a physical condition, I understand what it is like to be constrained by obstacles. My products are unique because they convey a personal story to which others may relate. It’s not about designing a logo or coming up with appealing slogans; it’s about impacting lives. I am still learning; the fact that it is an e-commerce business does not make it easy. One of my most essential lessons is that you can’t let perfectionism keep you stuck; you must sometimes make adjustments as you go. Seeing lives transformed keeps me excited in the process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the first places I’d want to take them is to my church, where I’d introduce them to my community. After church, we’d go to our church’s restaurant, FD’s. During that week, we would eat at places I frequent, such as Olive Garden, Chilis, Applebee’s, or Bravos, and then hang out at Kemah Boardwalk or Discovery Green.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who enables me to live beyond my limitations.
I also want to thank Dr. Dana Carson of the Reflections of Christ Kingdom for teaching me God’s Word, challenging and stretching me, and motivating me to strive for greatness and never settle for mediocrity. Because of his example and words “go higher,” I am working on my doctoral degree. Without his teachings, I never would have imagined where I am now. All I do, I want to do for the glory of God!
And without the encouragement from a special person in my life, Minister Stacey Brown, M-POWERED would not exist today. He encouraged me to be unashamed and share my experiences to inspire others.
