We had the good fortune of connecting with Mychelle LeVan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mychelle, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Life and work balance for an entrepreneur can be very difficult! The first two years I didn’t have to think about it much since I was just building a brand and getting out there. However, these last 2 years I have had to limit the amount of weddings I do each year to make sure I have a good balance as a wife, mom, entrepreneur and friend. I have found that a good balance keeps everyone happy! Keeping a balance also allows me to be totally present where ever I am in order to give my best to whom ever I’m with. I love to have fun while working too and it’s not very fun when you have loads of weddings to edit and blogs to write and a family to make dinner for. Growth and reflection are very important to me and with a balanced work life I can breathe easy to stretch and make new goals.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I dusted off my camera when our first kiddo was born. Having took some film classes in college I was eager to get back into photography and see what digital was all about. It started as a hobby and then grew into the wedding business I have today. All the while continuing to teach group fitness classes and personal train a few clients and have more kiddos. I had my hands full but I loved it! Looking back over all these years I am amazed at how fast time flies by! I wish I could go back to the new mommy in me and tell me to slow down! And tell me that I don’t have to do it all! It took trial and error and over scheduling to learn that it’s ok to just say “no” to adding things on my todo list. I love finding the balance now. I have also learned that not everyone is a good fit for me. And that’s ok! My couples and I usually have the same type of grounding that gives us a foundation for a great relationship. My brand and story are simple but deep. My marriage has been a long road. Going from two teenagers from totally different upbringings, to a young married couple, growing up together, careers, moving & kids we could give you a grand testimony of how God is always faithful …. We know that marriage takes work and commitment. The wedding is just a celebration, a symbol of the journey two people are about to embark on together. Our hope is that we are able to help, assist, leave an imprint, be an ear, friend or just pray for them as they experience life together. Life is to short so live it whole heartedly! Live with Passion, live it with Kindness, live it with Grace, live it with Adventure, live it with LOVE!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live for the beach!! It could be up on Lake Conroe or Galveston all the way down to South Padre Island. I’d say we pack a picnic and head down to Beachtown for a relaxing afternoon listening to the waves and wind. Soaking in the warmth of the sun and having some good laughs. For the evening I’d take them to Margaritaville to eat at Land Shark Bar and Grill. They have a sandy lounge area with a great fire pit, a beautiful lake walk, a live band and great food and drinks. I definitely enjoy more of the chill life when I don’t have kiddos with me. lol
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout of coarse my family and friends! They have to put up with some crazy schedules and late nights. Also a huge shout out to all my amazing couples! I really do find myself caring very dearly for all of them! They become a part of my prayers and a part of my life. Bringing them home with me via images also brings my family into their story! They continually inspire me remind me of what love is all about. There is a piece of me that stays with them through their journey! They are why I love what I do and continue to pursue this amazing dream job.
