We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was mainly my own skin journey inspiring me to help others feel beautiful in their own skin. I struggled with acne for about two years. I tried all kinds of products and skin care routines, but nothing seemed to help. During the time that I was in esthetician school where in reality I didn’t learn anything useful pertaining to my issue. This is when I decided to find a solution to my own problem and help others do the same.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have to come to learn what sets me apart from others has truly been my long time battle with acne. I was open about my journey, and I think that’s what brought attention to my business especially my acne program. I’m proud and excited to be transforming lives by helping people reach their skin goals and improving people’s confidence. I have gotten to where I am today thanks to all my hard work, sacrifice, and many risks. It was far from easy, but it has definitely been worth it. The only way to overcome challenges is to not give up. You have to understand that you will fall back and that is part of the journey. The road to success is bumpy, but you must remain resilient and keep going. The biggest lesson I have learned is great things do not come overnight. I want the world to know that everyone is beautiful in their own skin and their own way, including their flaws. I think we must all learn to embrace our uniqueness and purpose in this world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being raised in Houston has really opened my mind to understand people of different backgrounds and cultures. For a week long trip, there are too many places to visit and have a great time. For food spots, I would definitely recommend “Ambrosia”, “Caracol”, “The Toasted Coconut”, or any food truck around town! To hang out, my favorite spots are “Buffalo Bayou Park”, “Discovery Green”, and “Houston Museum District”. And we can’t forget about nightlife! There’s many places but it all depends on your mood and vibe. Houston does not disappoint!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my friends and family, but I would like to dedicate my shout out especially to my mom and my boyfriend. My mother came to this country with nothing, and was able to start her own business and become successful on her own terms. She has supported me and guided me through my journey, and I’m really thankful for her. My boyfriend is the one who pushed me to my limits, and made sure I never gave up on my dreams. Also, I cannot forget about all the estheticians who have taken their time to help other estheticians who are new in the industry by providing tips and guidance.
