Meet Kourtney Staples: Wife, Mom, Baker, YouTuber

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kourtney Staples and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kourtney, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
Starting The Station Bakery just sprouted from a random idea and inspiration from my grandparents, but it has blossomed into something beyond what I even considered in the beginning! At the start of my business, I was just having fun and wanting a creative outlet to be able to bring in extra income for my family. Over time and as I learned more and more about being a home baker, my mind has expanded to all the possibilities that I can take this business. The end goal for The Station Bakery is to be a high functioning business making sweet treats for our clients and teaching other home bakers how to be successful in reaching their goals and ultimately re-opening my grandparents’ Station where this whole vision grew from! I would love for this to be able to happen very soon so my grandparents are able to see it come to life. ❤️
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career with The Station Bakery is set on serving its customers and clients with the heart of Christ. We strive to make each cake, cupcake, and treat a truly special and unique masterpiece that brings joy and has its own personal touch. We customize our products to fit the wants and needs of our customers and clients. Starting a business from scratch can be a journey. For me it definitely has been. There were hills and valleys along the way. I struggled with feeling inadequate at times, feeling alone and like I was just wasting my time. But those moments are constantly counteracted with super highs and achievements where I feel like The Station Bakery is finally getting somewhere. Anyone looking to start their business or has their own business already, just know there may be challenges, but the beauty and growth that’s waiting in the other side will be so worth it! Prayer, rest, and growing a support system have been key in my ability to maintain and not give up when I felt like throwing it all away. I find that without these things it’s impossible to function wisely or accomplish my goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting the area some of the main things we would do are go out to eat, do fun active activities, and have a gathering at my house or some of my other friends’ homes. Eating in Houston is one of the best experiences and if I could, I would eat out ALL the time! For breakfast we would go to Another Broken Yolk in Sugar Land every day. I absolutely love their food! For all other meals it would be a toss up because there are just so many great places to eat. But, I just could not allow my friend or anyone for that matter to come to the city and not have Whataburger. Hands down the best burger place and no one can convince me otherwise. We would eat that multiple times to be honest. For activities, I like to do active things so I would want to go somewhere fun like bowling, or an event center like Main Event or the movies, but honestly the thing I like to do most is chill with my friends and have game nights.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my husband, Jonathan! He has put in so much work with helping me with my business, from late nights helping me complete orders, to caring for our children after he gets in from work so I can focus, to helping me trouble shoot and giving me support and encouragement the entire way. My grandparents are deserving of a huge shoutout, because The Station Bakery wouldn’t be if it weren’t for their hard work and legacy! Also deserving of a shoutout is my mom, Gloria and sister, Ashley. They give me real feedback on my business and ideas. Although I may not always want to hear what they have to say, I know they will give me their honest thoughts and that is always appreciated. Lastly, I have to shoutout my friends/customers. Every purchase, like, comment, and share has really helped my business grow and I am thankful. More specifically, some of them have been here from the beginning and some of them I just met and have been going hard for my business ever since! So a special thank you Britney, Denzil, and Angela! Y’all rock! Oh, and shoutout to all my future customers and clients to come!
