We had the good fortune of connecting with Krishna Shorty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krishna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
While working in corporate I was faced with many challenges, that continued to show me that no matter where I go or how much money was made, I was not happy. It would start off great, however after few month the feeling would come back. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be a business owner, I started a couple businesses while in college and after college, those did not go as planned and I just knew I had a bigger purpose. At only 28 years old, being told you will be taking medicine to control your thyroid for the rest of your life, just did not sit well. I began to do research on how hypothyroidism could be reversed. Transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle was the first step, the second step was the research on herbal medicine. While researching loose leaf herbs I gained a substantial amount of knowledge and different ways to heal my body naturally. My passion for herbs began to grow and drinking tea became a part of my everyday routine. In 2018 after visiting my OBGYN & Physician, my thyroid was reversed and I no longer take medication. As time passed, I decided to start a business that can also build awareness and provide herbal tea that would not only be beneficial but also have an amazing taste.

Fast Forward to May 2020, I decided to launch Kosmic Tea during the pandemic, and from there we have been bringing awareness and growing our company. Changing people perception on herbal loose leaf tea, changing generational curses within my family and the community and creating generational wealth is a dream of mine and I will not stop until I succeed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As an herbal tea company we love helping and educating the community about the benefits of herbal loose leaf tea, we take pride in creating blends to have positive intentions and a great taste, that everyone can love whether they love tea or not. What sets us apart from others is that we are more than a tea company, we promote health and wellness in different aspects of life whether it’s yoga or mindful meditation. Kosmic Tea is also working toward building jobs in the communities and helping those in need through community work and more. We are excited for the new year (2022), we have so much in store and part of that is expansion and hosting events in the oak cliff/Bishop Arts District. The amount of recognition Kosmic Tea has received and the great reviews we receive from our customers, keeps us going and growing.

The best way to see growth in your business is being consistent, we continue to market Kosmic tea even if we get discouraged. There are days we feel our business is at a standstill, but we keep going and we understand that is the reality of building a business. We are nowhere near where we want to be, however we are far from where we started, and it was far from easy to get here but every growth spur makes it worth it.

Hard work and dedication is the key to overcoming challenges, the challenges are what makes you better for the next challenge.

Kosmic Tea is not just a brand, it is a company growing into a family the every community can connect with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have lived in Houston and Dallas creating an itinerary is a challenging task, especially with new area developments. When living in Houston I would take my friends to Highland village area for RA sushi happy hour following with texas favorite cupcakes at sprinkle, following a night at Z on23 for a good skyline view. The week would also include shopping at the Galleria Mall and City Centre, Brunch at 5015, snooze or Hearsay, Henry’s and more.

As far as Dallas, We would visit downtown for some fun at AT&T discovery district, drinks at Sky blossom, Appetizers at Catbird, then Dinner at Monarch. We would visit the oak cliff/ bishop arts area for some more outside fun brunching at tribal Cafe, dinner at Paradiso and bar hopping in the area to the revelers hall to Atlas. This area we would need another day to visit cigar Art, Casablanca, Eno’s, Vegan House, Del Casa Vegano and Melt for some ice cream. Next would be Trinity grove, brunch at Soriee Coffee Bar, Dinner at Sum dang good Chinese and dessert at the Cake Bar. And if its foot ball season Texas Live for the game.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to Dedicate and shoutout my support system. My family and friends have had my back since day one, no matter what obstacles I face they are always there to pick me up and pull me through. My special individual shoutout goes to My mother Barbara Shorty and my older Brother Richard Shorty, without them I don’t know if Kosmic tea would be where it is, no matter what, they make sure I continue to work towards my dreams and make them my reality.
