We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystale Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystale, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always wanted to have my own business, but I knew it was equally important to start something I was passionate about. Kreative Khaos is exactly that for me! It involved everything I love, creativity, working with people, and print style photo shoots amongst other things as well as allowing me to build my brand as a plus influencer.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have several items going which is par for the course. I am currently rebranding myself as a plus influencer under Officialdivadoll where modeling was my first love, so I am reconnecting in social media spaces like Instagram, Tic Tok, Facebook etc… I am the owner of Kreative Khaos where I specialize creative direction on set with the photographer and model/models to bring their desired images to life also while managing the flow of the shoot to keep with time restrictions of all parties involved. I also manage up and coming music artist Jahi Khalil out of Tallahassee, Florida by way of Baton Rouge, Louisiana as well as manage brand ambassadors for DewGami. A clothing brand based out of Queens, New York. I would say I am most proud of my management capabilities. It was something I chose to walk away from due to not trusting and believing in myself, but it always lands square in my face, so I have decided to embrace and push it to the limit. I have learned that doing what you love is key because even with those things’ times will get tough and you may want to quit. In those times you want to go deeper and persevere. Obstacles and challenges are a given and as always if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready so get prepared for your dreams as best as possible. Flexibility is also a key for success in the management game, things change constantly so you have to think quick on your feet. The biggest lesson I have learned is to trust your instincts in all things. They will never lead you astray. Also staying true to yourself so you never get lost in the shuffle of life. I want the world to know that the only limitations placed on oneself are the ones you choose to believe in. I only ever dreamed about getting dolled up and being on set in front of a camera modeling a designer’s clothes. For plus women at the time this was a foregone conclusion that would have been laughed at. Now Plus Models are everywhere owning their space and a lot of people’s times. I plan on being right in the mix representing along with them with my own personal brand and company!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in my city would have to start with Sunday Bruch at 13, from there we are hanging out at Island 1515 to enjoy some good music and fun. During the week would be a stop at Taste Bar + Kitchen where the most amazing food and drinks are created. My favorite is the Cotton Candy and if you know you know! Then there is the O2 Lounge on Thursdays created by Keto Gentry where you can get in on a live music set featuring Marium Echo and some of the best lemon pepper wings ever! I am a movies type of girl so we will pop in to see whatever is on screen at Cut by Cinemark which provides in service food and drinks. I also enjoy Karaoke at Voice for a good time and good laughs. Saturdays typically are my rest day’s but since bestie is in town Fogo De Chow mixed with Prospect Park will definitely be the moves made. A great week indeed!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say once I connected with Yolanda Ann, Owner of The EGO Boutique is when everything came into place. I was able to glean knowledge, understanding and motivation from watching her work relentlessly in building and maintaining her brand. It was with her my experience as a plus model was crafted and improved over the years. It is also where the idea of Kreative Khaos came to be. I would always participate as a model in her shoots, but other models would ask for my assistance as a pose coach. From there I built out the need to work on set efficiently with the models and photographer which lead to Kreative Khaos being born. I also got inspiration from watching Mr. J (America’s Next Top Model) put together elaborate sets to shoot print modeling challenges and how he works with all parties involved to pull it together. The most special part is working with the models and connecting to pull out the best image that they absolutely fall in love withit! My family and friends support any wild idea I come up with, so their love keeps me pushing on achieving my dreams.
