We had the good fortune of connecting with Shree and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shree, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Firstly, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity to be featured in the interview of your “Shoutout Series”. The thought of starting my own business was an outcome of diverse kinds of work I was doing as a self-employer and also for the community. It followed a pretty interesting and transitional process. Formally I was an IT pro with a Masters Degree in IT. I have been associated with blue-chip companies like HP, Microsoft, Heathrow Airport (Terminal 5), Toys R Us, Powergen, to name a few. I quit my full-time career since I fell pregnant for the first time and became a writer. My writing covers multifarious genres and business. My first book was published in 2015. Since then I never looked back. I was thoroughly enjoying getting published in several renowned platforms and also receiving awards and accolades. Coming from the IT background and having prior experience in graphics designing and content writing, I began to focus more on digital publishing. I design my own book covers, edit my own pieces, prepare social-media promotion graphics and write contents for websites. While doing these for myself, I realized I can actually help so many other people who are looking for someone to do these jobs for them. I took a step ahead and set up a landing page of my website https://
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Good question! As I have already mentioned earlier that today I am an Authorpreneur and Founder of my small business from home “Meandering Thoughts with Shree”. This name itself signifies that I offer with diverse services in writing, designing, digital publishing, social and entertainment media. And it is a lot of fun! But naturally, establishing my own business was not easy. I quit my full-time IT job to become a writer. Then gradually tried to expand my creativity in the digital publishing and media industry. I tried to publicize my business all by myself and it involved a lot of hard work and patience. The universe challenges us everyday with a new hurdle, some minor, some major. I was born in India, naturalized as a British Citizen and currently residing in the United States. Settling down in new continents, trying to fit into entirely different cultures, understanding the new lifestyles and trying to become a part of the unknown societies are challenges on their own anyway. And especially when I am trying to pursue my journey as a writer, even though I come from an IT background, I had to and still have to put in a lot of hard work! I also upgraded myself with a few writing courses from renowned universities to match the current industry standard. In the current scenario, doing anything is extremely tough as there is a huge competition. There are millions of business owners and everyone wants to get established. It isn’t very easy to stand out in this situation. Hence selecting the right time and option and setting targets and strategy accordingly, is extremely important. I am a proud mother of three little boys – all of them four years and under. And finding time to work is the toughest challenge for me these days. Still, I use the time as an elastic and find some for myself. And trust me, without challenges and hurdles, no good work is produced. So challenge is the “new enjoyment” for me. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes of course, it will be my pleasure to share this with you. I was blessed by the universe to receive endless love and encouragement from all my family members, friends, social media connections, readers, clients and co-workers. I have, and continuing to, learn so much from them. My spouse has been very supportive in this journey and is very proud of whatever I have achieved so far. I am also blessed to get acknowledgements and recognitions from some famous personalities and art and culture organizations. Esteemed magazine “Voyage Houston” has classified me as one of the Rising Stars of Houston in 2020. Each and everyone deserves a big shoutout for encouraging and supporting me. Other than that, I would like to mention about three of my solo books and a short film, which have brought me international recognition:
