We had the good fortune of connecting with LaJont’e Kirkendoll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaJont’e, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Wow, amazingly support was my biggest thought. I knew what I wanted to do, I knew the goals I wanted for myself and my business. My thing at that time was “will people support me?” And that was a big thing for me for a very long time. I had to learn support isn’t about who we expect to support us, but who does support us. Over the years I found my target audience. It wasn’t who purchased from me. It was who listened to my ideas, who listened to me when I was ready to give up. Those who shout out for me in every way possible. At that moment I stopped carrying about support. I cared about being consistent. Being dependable. Being worthy of the support that had gotten me where I’m at Today..
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started off making T-shirts and selling wholesale clothing. Since then my journey has transitioned. I am now a licensed Life and Health Insurance agent. This journey was not easy for me. It was so different from what Ive done previously. I spent many hours studying for my license, at times I was ready to give up. The test was so difficult for me I was losing faith. I had to ask myself, “How important is this to you?” It was very important. This was a career. This was me helping people in a way it will benefit them for the rest of their life and their loved ones afterwards. Now that I have the knowledge I need to educate those around me. I plan to do just that. Life Insurance is so important. Especially during these times when death is hitting closet and closer to our families and frequently. I want everyone to stop thinking they have time, they dont need it until their older, or it will only pay for their funeral. Life insurance benefits can also be used to provide financial stability for your children and loved ones after your passing. I am more then a agent that collects your payment. I want to educate my clients, be a listening ear and available for their needs now and later.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best-friend came into Town depending on the Season we going have crawfish. I love me a good crawfish boil. My most recent visit was to Kamp Houston. So I most definitely would recommend them. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and the food was so good. Im not really a drinker but I love a great Margarita and Tia Juanitas is my favorite go to for drinks. My idea of fun is a day out for brunch and shopping. I enjoy selfie museums, a nice lounge and bar, and amazing vibes and scenery. I recently stayed at Hotel Derek and the rooms, to the restaurant and splash pool was perfect. I literally could of just planned a relaxing day there. I would also enjoy a night at arcade. I love bowling, lazer tag and things of that sort.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I first started my business 5 years ago I focused on Tshirt making & clothing boutique. My Husband was my number one supporter. He invested every dollar it took to start my business. Advertised , promoted me and opened up my shop. Things I never thought I would have or see. My Mother Venita Sims , Sister Shanique Sims were there for me every step. Ordering and promoting my clothing. My sister even came in my shop and helped me run it. My list of supporters can go on. My In laws and close friends shout for me so much. They have never left my side or allowed me to give up. When I felt I couldn’t do it, they were encouraging me to keep going. I thank God for them everyday , everybody need someone but when you have a entourage ! When you have a entourage!!! Of genuine people, the places you can go, the things you can accomplish because they push you to see your full potential.
