We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Paiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well to be honest, it just kind of happened. It was really never in my plans to start my own business. I knew that starting a business required a lot of time, money and dedication. And I also knew that there were many risks and self-doubts that would come along with it. I always worried if I would get enough business, would my products be good enough, would I succeed, or if this was the right path for me? As there is a lot of competition out there in the baking world. Luckily I had my family, friends and loyal customers who have always believed in me and encouraged me to keep pushing for more and to take risks because there is something bigger out there for me.

What should our readers know about your business?
Learning a new skill is never easy – I have had my share of bad days. But the only way to overcome those challenges is by practicing and perfecting your craft. The lessons I have learned along the way are for any business at any level. It’s always important to stay humble. Learn to embrace what you have in common with your competitors and highlight what sets you apart. My business has grown – decorated cookies were my sole focus for several years – however, now I have ventured out and offer other sweet treats like regular cookies, cupcakes, chocolate bombs and many other desserts. I am always here to help by providing you with the best sweet treats for your next event!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely have to give a shout out to my husband and my family, because without their help and encouragement I probably wouldn’t be able to do what I do now. They are my biggest supporters – they see my talents and are constantly telling me how proud of me they are and what I have accomplished. I do this for them and my kids. Also, I would like to recognize my friends and lovely customers because without them, my business would not be thriving and would have not grown so much throughout these years.
